Nothing wrong with your eyes Martin, the last engineering update on the site was the 9th.

Please tell me where I said that any explanation should be put on this forum? What I called for was for the Trust to fully explain the situation and this should be done, in my opinion, by an accurate statement on their website so that all that have supported by covenant, bond issue or sponsorship can see what is happening.

Please do not read in agendas which were not there.

As an owner of german cars, including at the moment a 2010 Vw Golf GTD, and a Bmw M3 E92, that is a load of twaddle, both have never been anything other than reliable. The second world war finished 66 years ago.

As for tornado, the trust will no doubt in the near future explain the rectification work, and when to expect her back in operation. Their efforts are at the moment best suited in doing that, rather than giving an hourly update as to progress.

We dont know that the repair work, maybe subject to a confidentiality agreement.

I've been a covenanter for almost two decades, and I am wholly in agreement with Oakfield on this. 'The management' of the A1SLT is not doing enough to keep covenanters, other interested parties and the public at large informed about what is happening with the locomotive. It's easy enough to do via the internet, so why did it take until 23:02 last night for the A1SLT to make their own very brief public statement on this latest development?

I think we misread each other and my apologies of any misunderstanding caused. My post was generic about the calls for transparency from the A1 trust . I felt that any communication should go to covenanters first and as such would not expect to see such communication on here

Actually it is not twaddle but motor industry statistics. Residual values for Mercs. etc have fallen dramatically because of concerns over reliability and this has had a serious effect on new leasing and contract hire figures. Mercedes have tried to balance the books on their in house leasing by making unrealistic charges for supposed damage on returned vehicles which has lead to much discussion in the press and threats posed of legal action against MB Uk.

As for Tornado, I did not call for hourly updates, rather a sensible and comprehensive statement.

Guycar360, I never mentioned the war, you raised this, perhaps you have taken it upon yourself to be an apologist for and protector of the German Nation?

If you must answer posts please try to answer the facts as written and no go off into flights of fantasy about what you may have imagined was written. Good comprehension is the key here.

Could we please keep this thread civil and without reference to anglo-german relations past and present. It really is unnecessary in the context of Tornado

any further comment will be moderated

    thanks guys

Why on earth would they want to do this when the focus has to be on getting her back in service ASAP to fulfil her revenue earning commitments? There is a planned winter maintenance period when the repaint can be done under suitable conditions without impacting on booked engagements.

Come on Sheff, you know steam loco only work properly when painted in BR livery (amazing that they didn't give up on this steam idea in the 123 years before there was a BR livery!)

    Sorry - I'll leave now.....

Speak as you find, i dont run a german taxi (merc), so dont use their statistics to beat down VW or BMW.

Both have been utterly reliable, and i have run both varietys for over 12 years. Thats 24 years of motoring...

As for Tornado, lets wait and see ehh.., i would much prefer they fixed her, rather than pandering to internet gossip and fending off people with a grudge at them using a piece of german engineering on the loco.

Its no wonder they very rarely post on here.

Surely that comment alone will do more to fuel speculation than anything mentioned so far in this thread? Witnessing covenators falling out in a public forum and criticising the A1SLT does not reflect well on the locomotive or the organisation!

If I may post more generally on the issue of work done by Meiningen Loco Works as the subject has already been raised in this thread, (recently too!). This is NOT specific to and/or related to 60163, about which, in the words immortalised by Manuel, "I know nothing". Please bear those words in mind!

I was a very active participant within the German steam scene from circa 2001 - 2006. That is after my many visits from 1971 to the early 1980s, (in DDR for the later years).

Back to the 21st century. The quality of the work done by Meiningen Loco Works was oft discussed during our long lunches waiting for the return steam trip. And also at the bar we used back in Hamburg where we enjoyed a few biers, food, much jollity etc, after the trips. "We" being myself and a number of German friends who were closely involved in their steam scene.

One thing came out quite often. Meiningen Loco Works were quite good at doing what the customer contracted them to do. Not always perfect, but quite good. And their quite large customer base asked for varying qualities and breadth of work to be done. And quite often the only people who would know what level and quality of work had been requested of Meiningen would be those in the loco works and those who owned the respective loco, ie the contracting parties.

In your opinion perhaps. I am not falling out with anyone Guycar360 decided to complain about what I did not say, that is his problem. With regard to the Trust I still feel that it is time for honesty with all the stake holders in this problem.

How much have tour promoters, passengers and last but not least the Bluebell railway lost through no fault of their own and I call again upon the trust to publish a sensible resume of the problem. I have always found honesty is the best policy in these cases and does the least damage in any case.

There is now a considerable number of people with access to the facts already, any active member of a MLSLO group will probably know as do several of the boiler inspectors , FTR inspectors the insurance companies DBS staff etc,. etc., etc. How long before the facts do become public and how much better it would be if the Public announcement comes officially from the A1SLT?

You may well have a very valid point here, Bryan.

Yes, but it only has any validity re the work of Meiningen Loco Works on German locos for the period up to 2006. That was the only context within which it was discussed with my German friends.

Ah the old "I know something but I'm not telling" ploy. A sure fire method of causing far more speculation than anything the A1SLT has put on the website.

But the whole problem is that the A1SLT has not put anything (meaningful) on it's website. It is not for any individual to reveal what the problem is rather it is the duty of the trust.

Right, so there is no point this thread continuing. Lets lock it, then an A1 representative can post a new one when there is proper information.
    Thanks.
