I also believe it has a permanent low profile safety valve which can be covered either safety valve cover.

It was noted in the Beano that the switchover is not an easy job and so it is only likely that it will change from one to the other when a several month long spell off or on the mainline is planned. I agree that once it has gone to the lower height it will probably stay that way.

So go to the GWS, MNR, SVR or GCR to see it in all its tall GW glory!

Having seen the timings, I don't think I will get up to photograph that LE move.

Excellent news ! It will be very fitting for the launch of 6023 to have 6024 at her side in a proper Western Depot.

    I cant wait !!!!

    Great Western.

Excellent news indeed! Looks like a great event as Didcot site says that 3738 and 5322 are also rostered for use over the 2nd-3rd April in addition to 6023. It does not mention 6024 yet though.

6024 will not be present. It is now arriving at Didcot on Tuesday 5 April.

A shame about not making the relaunch but at least there will still be the chance of two in steam Kings around Easter.

I'm not sure I'm so disappointed 6024 won't be there on that occasion - of course it will be great to have them both together as often as possible, but perhaps on launch day, its a bit like you don't turn up to someone else's wedding in a posh white dress. With 6023 the only King on site, it really will be the one and only centre of attention. (I don't doubt at all that the 6024 crew would have been entirely proper to avoid any issues so I'm not suggesting that at all - its just that those who've worked the miracles on 6023 seriously deserve to have all the crowds entirely focused on their acheivements for that one day).

(Plus from Didcot's perspective it means we will all have to go twice!)

When my post in the Media/Steam Railway section decides to get published, I have mentioned a few more snippets from the latest issue. This pre-modding is an absolute pain as I have said before. Something to with a previous editor of SR throwing his toys out of the pram I believe.

So, who's going to be there Saturday?

I shall be there, and if you want to say hello, I'm the one with my left arm in a sling (under my clothes, though, so you'll know me by my empty sleeve and my attempts to take pics with my phone one-handed!) Other distinguishing features, shaved head, 6ft tall...

Pic of me without my arm in a sling:

Weather forecast currently looks ok-ish, so hopefully it will be a great day!
