Congratulations to the team involved. Another supposed no-hoper is now restored again, well done.

I say, that would be nice. Any one for the dukedog and the Grange when it's finshed?

3440 piloted 6000 for a trip over the Welsh Marches c1987

any pilot on a king is rather a surplus of power unless of course you are going to hang 15 on up Dainton

how about Hardwicke piloting Evening Star , absolute Dignity and impudence, and yes it happened

Thanks for sharing that, some interesting clips. That 8F is just a bit loud and their seems to be a rather liberal interpretation of the speed limit in most clips!

A friend of mine sent me this report this morning. Adds a little colour and a few more details
Well done to all involved in the restoration. I'm looking forward to seeing, and hearing, her in action really soon. And good luck to 6024 for her boiler inspection, so that the Kings may, perhaps, meet in steam during the year.

I travelled on the inaugural public working of 9303(/7325) on the SVR. This was double-headed with a prairie, and followed a last minute decision to run 9303 on a service train. Sure enough, the prairie was uncoupled and ran across VB separately ahead of the train.

Congratulations to the 6023 team at Didcot. Looking forward to seeing 6023+6024 together soon.

Thanks for sharing those cracking photos. Sights like that will never be seen on the big railway again.

You can say that again! Check out the clips of 5080 Defiant running light engine up the SVR and 34027 on her recomissioning in June 1988 in the same collection...had great fun looking through them all, fantastic archive.
Back on topic that's a fantastic pic of 6023 back in steam, been a long time in coming for a second King, can't wait to see her lined up with 6024.
