Good to see all the excellent pictures of 6023 posted on the GCR winter gala thread. It lasted the gala, contrary to the expectations of one or two naysayers, so it looks like the recent boiler work has been successful. I guess there will be a few teething troubles to address, but it appears that one of the most complex Barry restorations to date - alongside 71000 - is now all but complete. Congratulations to all involved in this challenging project, and I'll look forward to finding out what happens next.

From what I was told at the GC yesterday, it would seem that 6023 is "work in progress" and that's to be expected so soon after being outshopped again. Looked and sounded magnificent even if she was a bit leaky at the front end on the fireman's side.

Yes defintely some tinkering still needs to be done but so close now. Anyone know how long it's expected to stay at the GCR?

    From the GWS facebook page

The plan is for 6023 to remain on the Great Central to accumulate some running time, but is expected back at Didcot in time for our gala event over the Bank Holiday weekend of 4, 5 and 6 May. That weekend should also see steam railmotor 93 back at Didcot with its auto-trailer coach 92

After all the up's and down's with this loco and going back to the sorry mess at Barry, what a utterly superb piece of kit this is now...........well done to all involved, all the hard work, vision........well it's just come up trumps...........

like one swallow doesn't make a summer , one weekends steaming does not prove the work . As per the 6023 page there will need to be a number of heating and cooling cycles over the forthcoming weeks which will prove whether the work done has been successful or not

Understand it's early days, but 6023 was a very impressive 'work in progress' and on the basis of last weekend I'm very keen to track it down elsewhere on its journeys.

The King was in fine form and voice on saturday when we saw it, and is a real credit to all the hard work put in by everyone thats made this happen, although i still think as said a bit of tinkering will need to take place, but still impressive when you think they only steamed it on thursday, but seemed to be leaking a bit here on the left hand cyclinder??

A few pics from Saturday :

Given the GCR's association with Leicester, perhaps there's a case to be made for renumbering and renaming 6023 as 6015 for a week or two?

Some charters have been announced for Mid March hence it should be there until end of March at least; whether it works other services on the GCR apart from charters is for the GCR to announce

I did wonder if 6024 would be renamed/renumbered as King Charles I (or even King Charles II) when she piloted Ollie over the Devon Banks in 2011, but she wasn't!

    From the GCR Newsletter:

"On the weekend of 23 & 24 February, there's another chance to see No.6023 King Edward II and No.3803 in action again, and a last chance to see No.777 Sir Lamiel before it leaves [the] GCR for the summer...............An intensive passenger service with 12 departures from Loughborough Central on Saturday 23rd and 10 departures on Sunday 24th. Adding to the attraction will be turntable demonstrations at Quorn & Woodhouse and double heading with 6023 and 3803."

Sounds exciting and that there are many other reasons as stated to go there.
Also, it sounds like the king shall be filling some shoes with Lamiel away. I hope they do an event w/6023 & 70013 as well.
