Yes lets give the subject a rest, better still bury it completely, a lot has been said and dragged up time and again, none of it is going to alter the facts and no doubt many the real facts may never see the light of day.

    Re: 6100 Royal Scot..Progress 2010.

Hello. I was around at the time of the work at southall. There is more here than meets the eye, not least that the scot wasn't even nearly ready when it left Southall, and everyone concerned with the build knew that. It was monetary reasons it left, not because it was "Finished"

Roland spent a long time away from the project due to a stroke.

parts and services took a VERY long time to filter down to the workers.

Money (The slow release of and non existance, penny pinching) was a problem at southall.

Key decisions are made by key people, there are a lot of people left with a bad taste when they did a very good job.

    Thats probably enough said.

Also, the original estimation of cost of the overhaul was wildly optimistic from the outset. it ran over budget fairly early on and releasing money after that point for essential work was very hard.
The people on the ground were under great pressure to complete jobs with what they has available.
I think it's worth mentioning that all this is my opinion as i saw things. I'm sure there are other factors that i wasn't privy to.

I've been looking for news of 6100, and no, I was not aware of the problems with this loco so am pleased (but sorry to learn about them!) to find this site. hope things will come good in due course. I was privileged to be on GB 4 and behind Scots Guardsman for a good run. Hope RS cam eventually copy her sister.

According to the RM today the boiler is being lifted for inspection with a view to extending its cert. The examiner wants to inspect the foundation ring. According to the trust there is no problem with it mechanically.

Good news but hopefully no one will estimate a date for its return to steam or it might never be finished!

This thread has been very quiet for three months. Anything new on 6100 (without dragging up all the usual arguments and finger pointing)?

I read on some site somewhere in the last few days that it was not being worked on at the moment and as still "in bits".....

When the examiner says extending its ticket, wouldnt it be more cost effective now to de tube it and go for a new 10 year ticket, with reference to the foundation ring, has there been any problems with the boiler ? because it could have only been steamed very few times since it (the boiler) was overhauled

Boiler was clearly visble in Crewe Heritage centre yard on blocks yesterday from a passing train. No sign of any work being done.

Shouldn't all this be in the 4472 thread?

Quite apt that the first advert on this page read 'Need a new boiler?'....

    Re: 6100 Royal Scot..Progress 2010/2011

does anyone have any idea of how much crewe have spent, up to now on this loco? could the lack of progress be because the trust doesnt want to get caught out finacially and are limiting the funds they allow to be spent , or is it being done at friends rate on an as and when spare capacity is available at crewe?

Thefact that is now nearly 4 years since the boiler was tested would make me think that the insurers would demand an internal tubes out inspection at the very least before giving an new ticket

Have just returned to this after a loooooong time away. Apart from a lot of waffle is there any concrete news about this sad saga? I would like to see Scots Guardsman with a sbling at work soon together even.

Hasn't been about 3 years since she was first run at the WSR as well isn't it. So sad that she is not on the mainline yet.
