    fully agree with that, and as fish called those responsible spanner monkeys also, i would guess he must be imbarrested with what has gone on, i know i would be , it does seem to show that the project management ,if there was any to be very poor, it would be more honest to admit where things have gone wrong, because its going to come out sooner or later and people who might have thought this isnt being done right will get tarred with the same brush as those who deserve it
    I did hope that the saga of 4472 was a one off, but as far as i can see from what has been said in the media there is clearly something not right , and word that port line is to be restored at crewe is hardly a resounding vote of confidence, infact if 6100 does end up being Ropley based, if the same people have completed the pipe runs given the standard of their work, i can see a long time being spent in the workshops with the engine being closely looked at and any sub standard, by MHR standards work being re done

    I must admit that the pipe looked new to me, no sign of rust anywhere, it looks like someone drilled the hole for the pipe that was joined tio the main steam pipe in the wrong place

    That is a very plausible explanation. However, it is not the fact that there is a patch there, it is more the quality of the work. It seems from the photo as though the crows have been dropping their waste, to coin a phrase!

    Yes - the welding looked b***** awful. I thought that exhaust injector steam feeds were normally annealed copper - not that I've seen that many - so I assume this is an economy measure? How suitable is carbon steel pipe, given the thermal and mechanical stresses and the possiblity of corrosion too?

    On the original pipe & rod drawing the material quoted for the exhaust steam pipe sections is steel.

    Today's Heritage Railway as a story on Royal Scot Bressingham have got to find another 30k for the remedial work to bring it up to mainline standard.

    Well well , looks like a few chickens are coming home to roost, someone said to me a while ago that this engine and those involved with it would bring Bressingham down , and whilst at the time i thought they were being far fetched it looks like they were telling the truth, its just sems to be more and more costs are being needed to compete this engine, and yet it was thought to be in fair condition when the plan was first put together to restore it to steam, certainly as it was complete and not a barry wreck so far what has been spent on this engine, and what is a comparive figure that was spent on 70013 , which i would think was in a simular condition

    That would be great - Sir William Francis was built to scale the bank from the WCML to Baddesley Pit near to me. I'd love to see it in action, as it was retired long before I had the chance.

    ok what can they sell? what would the norwegian mogol and terrier fetch on the open market because it seems to me that its either sell 3 or 4 un restored engines being either road or rail engines or one of the working engines either way i hope now that the trusties of bressingham will think very carefully about plans to restore any engines in future but i dont expect that there will be any more engines restored, or ones that are currently in working order getting a second ticket because this would have crippled them financialy which no person who loves steam would have wished to see i would love to be a fly on the wall at the next AGM of the trusties, because had people stoood up to Mr ward, all this might have well been avoided had bressingham done the work them selves after all they did a good job on the terrier and the mogol , so they had the expertise

    As yo say Martin, they HAD the expertise. But as is usual with preservation societies, those in a position of "power" wouldn't listen. The trustees knew better than people who had built boilers and worked with locos for a living. I hate to say i told you so but..........

    No then, which traction engine shall i buy?

    As far as I am aware the industrials - with the possible exception of the crane tank and the fireless - are privately owned, although this may well no longer be the case. The Kriegslok would be unlikely to sell given that the one at the Nene Valley has yet to find a buyer. I dare say however that there would be a queue round the block to buy the B4.
