Many people are raving about the return of 611! 765 schedule is fantastic though.

 

That's great news for all US steam fans - the 611 is an icon - a brute of a greyhound - huge combustion chamber to generate more power than you can get onto the rails - and beautifully designed running gear and motion that can sustain amazing rotational and piston speeds - a Roanoake classic - shame it's so far from here..... hope you enjoy (and the other two are no slouches either). Must be time to get the Winston Link CD's out again (now all we need is an A and a Y6b...)

4501 made a short test run to Cleveland, Tennessee this past weekend.

 

Today May 22nd,2015 611 took it first mainline jaunt since December 1994.

I was fortunate to be able to watch the Trains magazine web cam that was sited at various locations on 611's journey from Spencer (North Carolina) to Roanoke (Virginia).
There will be another live streaming, hopefully, on 3rd. and 5th. July when 611 runs from Roanoke to Lynchburg Va. over the Blue Ridge grade.
(Fans of Laurel and Hardy will recall their song about the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. )
