61994 is required for the SRPS's "Forth Circle" on 22 August and RTC's West Highlander Steam Express on 4 / 5 September so staying until 20 August would seem to fit. However a further loco would presumably be required after 20th.

wonder why its stated that the plan is for it to return south after 45407 gets up there to take its place on the 11th, according to Mr Riley. 45231 to deputise for the K1.

Hopefully, 62005 will be fit to return to duty by then?

I was surprised to find the K4 pressed straight into service on The Jacobite today. Loudest loco I've ever heard climb up Beasdale. Simply fantastic, and well worth the trip for anyone thinking of doing so.

Well - the hoffice have been told that I am not available next month - hotel is booked at Fort Bill next week - let's just hope that the roster is as indicated and that Billy Beam makes a welcome retun sometime. Grog and Gruel anyone??

A short sojourn at the Spinnaker for a Waverley cruise then off to the North East for Balmoral and the Tall Ships - and 5690

Sounds like you've got yourself well organised Frank. Now if I can persuade her indoors that she needs to rearrange her holiday plans so I can spend a few days with 61994, I'll buy you that pint I owe you in the Grog and Gruel. :)

UkSteam shows 61994 hauling the Jacobites next week (2nd - 7th August). Is this fairly definate, subject of course to the usual disclaimers? Is the K4 penned for any more operating days on the Jacobite prior to leaving Fort Bill (20th?) - or will it just be fulfilling a standby role between the 9th and 20th August?

My understanding is that its next week and that's it - 5407 takes over thereafter

Bugger. Why have I decided to buy a house?! All my money is currently being mopped up by that, leaving nothing for jolly jaunts to Scotland.

Damn. If it wasn't for work commitments next week I'd be up there. Really rather annoyed I'm missing out on this. I did the Jacobite in 2005 with the K1 and absolutely loved it - certainly the greatest steam run I've had anywhere in the UK. Since the K4 came back after overhaul in BR black the idea of going back for this on the Jacobite has been something I've been waiting for. I didn't think it was going to happen - and now it is - and I can't make it!

Perhaps I can hope that now the K4 has seen service on the Jacobite in 2010 that maybe, just maybe, it may pave the way for a return next year...? But - the K4 must be nearing the end of its current 7-year mainline ticket? Is next week really likely to be 'it' I wonder...?
