Oh Dear - my group of friends who go dining on many a special have now told me of so - so food and unheated stock - in posh class!

Its bad enough at coach class rates - but when it happens at that per diem........

They are too polite to say anything - I think that is wrong and that if there are problems of poor supply that the promoters and stock owners need to know so that things can be put right. Needless to say they had no complaints about Lizzie

Worth waiting for David, oh perhaps I shouldn't say that, might get me into trouble..:tongue1:

I wonder how long it will be before someone goes all the way and posts a clip that is all shot in the dark?

Thanks Ralph - not long perhaps. I see PSOV have a 'mainline steam at night' DVD available, and they seem to use some fancy lights.

We were utilising the ETH from the 47, so not steam heat required from Lizzie.

TBirdFrank - If your friends (passengers) would like to call the office I will gladly talk to them about the trip. We did have an intermittent issue with the heat in one of our MetCam Pullmans on the return journey.

Whilst credit is due to Steve, his background with GW engines rather suggests that there may well have been a lot of guidance on LMS Pacifics from others at Tyseley, possibly?

Re: 6201: 75th anniversary of speed record Special To Glasgow

We may well have met at or near Skew Bridge from the latish 1950s. We got quite blase about being very close to hard working steam locos ( although I got the wind up the first time 10000/10001 roared past )
Strange how people like to imagine a perfect picture from the past when in fact it probably wasn't at all like that. Like you I remember the anomalous Palethorpes vans, as well as milk tank wagons attached to the back of passenger trains. Also there was often a mix of coaches eg the GW coach on the back of the Northbound Midday Scot. I suppose a similar attachment on a steam special today would offend the purist.
However my memory is that the 8ps seemed to work well within capacity whereas the smaller engines seemed to nearer capacity. eg I remember a class 5 seeming to be giving it all alongside and keeping pace with a class 8 gently puffing along on the Caledonian approaching Skew Bridge; and remember the procession of class 5s and 5XPs struggling on through freights from Preston Southwards in the evening leaving huge clouds of smoke over Penwortham? The place to watch a struggle was the 1/100 exit North from Preston. A class 7 plus class 2 on a Man/Liv to Gla/Ed was a sound and sight to savour.

A Princess is purely a natural devlopment of a King with which he is very well accustomed too I would have thought! However, Tyseley did an excellent job of 'tweaking' 45305 a few years back...it fully justified it's 'Black 5 gti' tag after that..

A superb video David! I really liked the shot at Elvanfoot. The angle gives a good image of her power.
