6201 'Princess Elizabeth'. (ex Doncaster) Hanwell to Salisbury. Sat. 15th Oct. 2016.

West Coast give the impression that Lizzy will work the 'Spirit of the Lakes' railtour to Salisbury on Saturday in one direction only. Surely that's not the case. <BJ>

''At Southall, to the west of London, our steam locomotive will take charge for the remainder of the journey before arriving at the ancient city of Salisbury''.

''After roughly three hours in Salisbury we return home behind one of our Diesel work horses''.

Uksteam has a steam return to Hanwell, so hopefully that's the case.

I see it's going the short way, via Bramley and Andover. Not a great length of steam haulage. I'd been hoping it would go via Newbury and Warminster, even if it went back the direct way - I'd like to see (and hear!) Lizzie climbing to Upton Scudamore. Never mind...

Not surprised the steam leg is short. It's a long day out if you are travelling from Doncaster. Not much time at Salisbury either, just over two hours.

Due to the closure of the down relief line at Twyford, all trains today ran on the down main and here we see Princess Elizabeth racing through a crowded Twyford station on its way to Salisbury. Great!!

A short clip of Lizzie at speed this afternoon, passing Walworth Crossing, just east of Andover.

Forget your country shots, I just love to see the expressions of the general public waiting for their service trains at stations and then a vintage steam engine races through at 75mph. The expressions of those passengers was a joy to behold.
