Your post is a timely reminder why this thread has recently gained a "new lease of life":- the decision to repaint Tornado in late BR livery was a surprise to many of us who understood that after wearing all the liveries it was possible for an A1 to wear, apple green was to be the norm from now on. In such circumstances it was quite reasonable for @GWR4707 to speculate whether Carnforth might make similar demands of 6201's owning group:-

...especially given the complications this might cause given that LMS Maroon as worn during its record-breaking run is stipulated as the livery it must carry - at least so we have been told, but as usual, this has resulted in the inevitable livery debate which, as usual, looks set to go round and round in circles!

We will have to wait, and see, as to who holds the most cards, David Smith, or Clive Mojonnier, and who is calling the shots, who knows, both might agree on what livery the engine is to carry, but if they differ, then my money is on David Smith, he holds the aces, same as I suspect he does over Tornado's sudden change of livery , and use on the main line.

I seem to have inadvertently started a livery debate for which I apologise.

As per the above I suspect as importantly will be who makes the decisions at the 6201 group, there has been suggestion in the past on here that it is the leadership who make the decisions, but if the membership are consulted who knows where things stand, similarly in both cases they are potentially not getting younger and thus even if the constitution says something that may not last for ever as such things can be changed.

Who knows, will just be nice to get her back on main line rails again ASAP.

It would just be nice to see Lizzie running again.

Am I the only person who feels that the subject of how its overhaul is progressing really ought to be the subject of far more interest than the one that seems to dominate - the colour it will emerge in?v Or is the enthusiast world more interested in taking snaps of it, rather than actually see it run?

I think the majority of those who have commented are interested in how the overhaul is progressing,

No, you aren't. But that doesn't mean that it isn't possible to have an interesting (and arguably informative) discussion about the historically accurate livery options for the loco and why it only ever appears in the same one of them

The overhaul is at 10A so I would not expect any updates.

The paint colour could have a financial impact on the overhaul though, if it were allowed to..........

It’s not a 10A loco though, so there should be updates for society members, regardless of where the overhaul is taking place or who the future operator might be.
    Same goes for Tornado

    "Spring overhaul update

The main focus of the overhaul remains with the boiler with the removal of the outer wrapper fire box sides. These are to be renewed utilising modern equivalent steels to replace the original nickel steel plate that is no longer available.

The removal of the fire box back plate has commenced with the drilling-out of the number steel stays and rivets. Once the fire box back plate is removed the boiler will be prepared for the NDT (non destructive testing) survey. A thorough examination by the boiler inspector will take place to determine the extent of the works that are required to return the boiler to service.

Many ask about timescales but we won’t be committed to any at this stage. We will keep you updated on progress.

Thank you again for all your support and interest in 6201. If you like to find more ways of supporting please visit our website at: https://6201.co.uk"

Going to be a while before anyone has to worry about what shade of rust preventative is required.
