ok poor choice of words, thats just the nickname the boiler boys at Crewe gave themselves.

how about the person who is responsible for the boilers on

    61994
    60009
    calbourne
    the Llan standard 4
and currently working on a certain merchant boiler

All the work is being overseen by Richard Watkins formerly of the SVR's boiler shop

who is donating a significant amount of his own time to getting lizzy back

But surely, with a nickname like 'the boiler bashers', they must be of poor quality, and litterly just hit the high pressure vessels with the biggest objects they can find so that they explode when anyone attempts to raise steam, rather than overhauling it to mainline standards ;-)

I realise feelings are running high re 6201, but isn't this a bit petty.
Anyone who has worked in industrial setting on any kind will be aware that all sorts of nicknames are thought up, which have no reflection at all on the skills of the people involved.

Apologies, I somewhat let my sarcastic side get the better of me! I was merely satirising Jordan's point of view. So sorry if it didn't come across too well in the written word.

Personally, I can't wait to see her back on the mainline, no matter who gets involved with what work on her!

Well, the silence is deafening!..I'll take that as a no then...Lizzie IS still outside for the winter.....what an absolute disgrace!...despite the fact that the loco was guaranteed full-time under cover accomodation at her home base, how many other virtually operational mainline Pacifics suffer such indignity and possible damage whilst ignoring the advise and guidance of those who atualy know what is best for the loco rather than those with rose-tinted glasses, self importance and absolutely NO knowledge as to the well-being of a locomotive.

Hopefully, Roy will soon make 'public' the whole sorry episode that is unfolding, and the Heritage Centre will distance themselves from this shambolic charade.

According to UK Mainline Steam, 46201 is on the third leg of Great Britian II on April 8th from Bristol to Preston.

Too late mate, some of us have read it. It's not so important anyway, because it only confirmed pretty much everything we've seen and heard about the way the 6201 society is currently managed. As has been mentioned before in this forum, it's a problem that has been going on for very many years, and however much the culprits try to cover their tracks, there will always be people who encounter it first hand and discuss it. These people are legends in their own lifetime - for all the wrong reasons.

As always, alarm bells ring loud and clear when a rabid level of secrecy is imposed in an organisation. The world doesn't need to know, nor is indeed even interested in the finer details of what organisations such as the PELS get up to internally. However when skullduggery is involved, then we are all interested. Autocratic, arrogant and incompetent people who manage to hold a position of responsibility are always a danger. It's a great pity that Roy gave up on it. He should have stuck to his guns and obtained support. Because the welfare of the society and the locomotive is at stake here. It's easy to understand why he gave up, but anyone with an ounce of logic can see roughly what's going on, and one hopes that at long last the rotton eggs will be rooted out and some real democracy and sensible decisions can be taken for a change. Which should ensure a reasonable future for all within the society - and locomotive. Instead of being run to suit the convenience of one or two self serving individuals.

I don't think it wasn't essentially all in the public domain anyway

I have seen it written that the SVR have put a figure of about £75k on the additional restoration costs of 43106 arising from it being stored outdoors.

In fairness, I think 6201 is rather different to 43016 as the latter spent several years in the open and I believe that one of the main problems was due to water ingress into the insulation between the boiler and cladding.

I understand that the Princess Elizabeth Locomotive Society has cancelled the PTS cards of 3 of its former support crew members including that of its former engineer Roy Kerry. What a great way to treat people who have supported the locomotive for many years..... SOUR GRAPES or what!!!!!!

Surely only the issuing authority can cancel a PTS within its validity?

Are we sure that this decision has been made by the committee or is it a case of Chairman and Wife deciding to withdraw the PTS cards!!!!!!

Your PTS is only valid whilst you are working (volunteering) for the sponsoring company (in this case that would be PELS), if those 3 members didn't renew their membership in January then they might have effectively cancelled their own PTS.
