Obviously, this will depend on the overhaul being completed and officially approved. A lot of hard work is being carried out by LNWR and the 6201 Working Party to expedite the process and if we aren’t ready in time, it won’t be for the want of trying

It's not fact is it , its intent

so ok they didn't quite make , but better to get it right than risk a failure . RTC have exerted pressure before to get a loco they want ontothe train (08/08/08 springs to mind)

Thepoint i'm trying to make is that all are more than happy to damn everyone and everything to do with the society without having any knowledge of the real facts . I appreciate the society have done little to help themselves

Perhaps the society would like to post to the loco information thread progress reports ?[/quote]

Can't see that happening can you?, now there is no DaveC to pass on the info.

Come on Dave, tell us why you were the 4th support crew man to jump ship

Can I come and live in your little world please ? It sounds so magical, a place where everyone who works on steam engines can never make a mistake, and those that know otherwise are simply wrong and misinformed.

Seriously, lets look at the FACTS.

We were told 6201 would be kept undercover whilst at Crewe.
In 8 months that is yet to happen. FACT.

We were all promised that we would see 6201 in action on the Great Briton II following completion of repairs.
Following 8 months of work, she is unfit for duty. FACT

There is also the FACT that has been a serious change in the behind the scenes of 6201, leading to one very significant figure leaving the group, and the FACT that there appears to be a lot of support for him following his departure.

Now I have no involvement with 6201 personally. Only thing I have is that she was one of the first engines I ever saw when I was a kid and she is one of the most impressive locos to see operating on the mainline. However, reading through this thread there are clearly issues, which all need to be resolved before any of us see her run again. [/quote:1s37fuv8]
Sadly, all the above are indeed correct and Lizzie now has a newly appointed engineer, alas what we don't have, is a locomotive that is yet fit to run.

A small crumb of comfort might be, for all upset members that the AGM is due on 6th June.

Then do yourselves a favour and table a vote of no confidence, and get new blood in charge that might be able to manage and create real income towards a future ticket - and if that means a green pacific then so be it - because there is a real wallet bearing market waiting for that, and simple blind prejudice against it.

Well said Tbird, Obviously I can not vote myself as I have had my membership renewal rejected!!

Hopefully people who have put money into the loco from the armchair will see their are many issues and that a good man has been lost due to the unpresidented actions of a small number of muppets. Which has caused the engine to have so much grief and gain itself a bad image to see the only way to resolve the situation is gain a new management structure!

    - Which is???

With regards to the work going to LNWR rather than Riley's I assume that this is was a purely commercial decision, as the CHC and LNWR are not actually linked are they? - Feel free to contridict me someone who knows better.

    I have to agree here...

A Green Princess could see this locomotive earn substantial revenue towards it's next overhaul. It would also demonstrate to the public, 1. Future Confidence in the management structure 2. Proof they are reacting to market demand and 3. They are serious about the future of the engine.

The combination of the 3 i'm sure will open peoples wallets to railtour and donation revenue towards the next overhaul.

However keep it the same boring red engine, same resentful management, same waste of cash and declining revenue, I suspect that there may be people who would object to a heritage lottery appeal, let alone put their hands in their pockets to support it.

Let's face it, every group has it's internal squabbles, but afterwards you need to move on.. not stagnate and let the bad blood swirl around you.

Someone said on here that it failed an FTR exam, and I have heard the same outside this forum. Whether that should have 'would have' as a prefix is maybe a matter of detail.

What I've been hearing is that a V & P exam was undertaken as a result of a piece of metal being found in one of the drain cocks after some work was carried out around the front end since its been at Crewe. Evidently there's more than that wrong, because something must be jamming one of the valves to make the reverser mechanism bend out of shape when it was moved in full gear. Such things happen, but if true it doesn't say much for what has been happening recently.

my understanding is that the problem was known about , that no FTR took place and the engine was withdrawn by the society as has happened before even when undercover at BUry and under R&S care

Sitting on the sidelines, there is a lot of bickering going on over this fine locomotive.

Obviously there is no sense of openness from the owning group.
People are clutching at threads and expounding their own interpretations.
Even the Heritage Railways site is poorly advised/updated:

    Preserved UK Railway Locomotives Database
    Number 6201 46201
    Name Princess Elizabeth
    Company LMS
    Class 8P
    Gauge 4ft 8.5in
    Wheel Arrangement 4-6-2
    Power/Transmission Steam
    Builder Crewe
    Works No 107
    Built In
    Date Preserved 1963
    Current Condition Mainline operational
    Last Overhauled In
    Current Location East Lancashire Railway
    Notes

This record was last updated by Mark Dewell on 17/10/07

Hardly inspiring if a database cannot be maintained.

Speaking with one of the 6201 boys at the weekend, he implied that it was not far off returning to action. Didn't give me an exact date, but did tell me to watch out for some news shortly. All in all he gave a positive outlook for Lizzie though.

Not supposedly, 6201 is in steam on Monday 4th, and doing demonstration runs in the yard, next to 6100 & 6233. So if you want to see the three together get yourselves over to Crewe.

Is the rumour correct that the 6201 society is going to launch its own website? I find this hard to believe, as the chairman and his wife have always given a NO to this suggestion.

They certainly need a website of their own, if only to counteract some of the stuff written in this thread.
