By way of further comment: 6229 is in LMS livery with her LMS number, whereas the one pulling the train today has BR livery and its BR number 46233. So the respective 7P and 8P are correct for the respective liveries.

Yes - both are authentic as they are but I have to say that I had forgotten completely the independent classification of locomotives until BR got its hands on them all. As a Southern man I have to say that when you have 4468 and 6229 next to each other in the museum there is no contest about the most elegant of the two (IMO of course). It's the Duchess.

And indeed I visited Think Tank last weekend and City of Birmingham was displaying a BR number and the 8P classification.

It's been an utter age since I've been able to get out to see a steam run, but the evening proved fruitful with a view to myself (much to my surprise!) from the footbridge at the Cross... For once, the timings of VTEC trains were on my side and I was able to get a clear shot. :)

Looking forward to seeing her on my birthday next Saturday and hoping for a lovely crisp morning at sunrise (yes, I know, I can but dream...)

    Cheers!

Oh wow they're fantastic shots. Been through KGX plenty of times but still not seen steam indoors there. I must try to team it up with a visit to The Parcel Yard some time.

Thankyou Nick! A quick check of uksteam shows that Wednesday has a run out and into KGX, which will be the last this year. I doubt I'll get to see it though.

    Cheers,
    Tim

Didn't go out today but saw '6233 on Thursday Evening at Peterborough having a crew change. Always a pleasure.

Footage of the Duchess accelerating away from York past a soggy Copmanthorpe along with shots of the Earl and KWVR yesterday.
