    Very very splendid.

We'd intended to make a day of it but I dragged myself out of hungover flu-ridden bed without Mrs 40121 and enjoyed - on the 14.00 ex Bolton Abbey - a superb performance.

Thanks to all who made this possible.

What can you get us next Christmas?

For the record, I did manage to get there on Boxing Day and a splendid time was had by all. The buffet at Bolton Abbey is brilliant with the fires going and my daughter (aged 5) got a driving turn on toby there too. 6435 is a great little engine - for a GWR tank anyway. Next year? 30585 please? Not the NRM one though...

As nice as 30585 would be, I cant honestly see that one happening as the only reason that 6435 was hired was due to the shortage of engines and an engine that was capable of pulling 6 coaches. 6 coaches is a heavy train at Embsay, trust me!

On one trip it took over 20 mins to get from Embsay to Skibdeen summit due to slipping with 6435!

What was quite surprising is the amount of people that turned up to see 6435 and yet 6430 didnt get that much attention, is this due to how far the engine has travelled?

I think this years Santa season was very interesting with Monckton no.1, 6435 and Darfield and No.8 (Thomas) all on 6 coaches, the last 2 double heading.

    Roll on next year.

I for one certinlay enjoyed it and 6435 will be missed, what a lovley loco.

    What next.............?

First time in 40 years north of Paignton/Bodmin for 6435.
6430 is only a good hour away at Llangollen.

Similarly 246 was south of the border for the first time since 1975-not sure it will now be such a draw at Llangollen as a result.

    34070 could manage 6 coaches!

I hadn't taken the size of trains at Embsay into account when suggesting 30585 - perhaps another Yorkshire railway with a maximum of - say - two coaches could take it sometime...

246 remains a draw at Llangollen for those of us who were too busy with the Middleton gala in September to get to Embsay for it!

Now a Bulleid at Embsay is an excellent idea... (and definitely too big for Middleton!!)

Would love to see 30585 at Embsay but the cost of hiring an engine like that with low loader costs etc would I think be too high for a novelty(so to speak).

I certinaly do hope 34070 can pull 6 coaches!

A bullied would be nice to photograph but cant help thinking would be a little boring!

    How about 9466??

    That would be nice!

    Any suggestions??

    Come on!!

Bulleids are not boring. Temperamental at times, mercurial even but NEVER boring. :smt001

Surely it would with a boiler full of steaming water and a roaring fire in its belly?

To be fair, the railway has been very good for a number of years but still has potential for improvement.

However, I suspect that your definition of getting better means more use of ex-BR locomotives?
