It was probably 1993/1994 when I saw her.

When first restored on the SVR it had a white cab roof, what happened when it left for the NVR I know not.

    Cheers Dave

70000_10_19.03.1994_Starring_at_Old_Oak_Common_3.jpg When involved with the Britannia Locomotive Society back in the 1970's, we found white paint on the cab roof while stripping all the old layers of paint off. When first restored in 1978 the cab roof was painted white, 70000 moved to the Nene Valley Railway in 1980 still with a white roof. This was not the case when restored to the main line in 1991, the cab roof was black topped, and I believe it has stayed that way ever since, certainly at the Old Oak Common open day in 1994 it was black topped. see pic.

Isn't the white roof a 30a Stratford thing?

I can remember Stratford based Cl.47 diesels having white roofs about 30 years ago,the Cl.37s didn't seem to get the same treatment.

It IS the worst on the network, a big improvement scheme has just been announced. A NR spokesman was on the box last evening (local news) bemoaning the fact that the place had been allowed to decline. It's an awful place, nothing works, filthy, no staff, nothing. And my car got vandalised there when we used the place to travel with Grand Central Trains. :mad2:

At 30A Stratford, 70000 Britannia was given the status of "Royal Train" engine, hence the white cab roof.

And that Mark used to be one of the best pubs in Wakefield. A guy called Tony Costello was the landlord, I've spent many happy hours in there.
As has already been said, why Wakefield Kirkgate? it's a slum.

Would be nice to know of any times, but as this is a Royal Train I assume info will be scarce. Do they still run a loco ahead of these?
