Out of interest what's the Stanier? boiler in front of the castle one off?
Hi GWR 4707
It is Black 5 no 45491's boiler.
It has been twice referred to as copper in "Rail Mail" but I know no more than that.
Here is the view towards Loughborough station, with the 04 boiler on a well wagon. Lots of engines ready for work!
Who's doing the boiler work now then, is it being done in house, or are Tyseley's engineers working on it at Loughborough?
I think that the GCR are doing the more of the work now, but it will still be going to Tyseley for the front tubeplate of the firebox?
Britannias have some copper stays in the first rows on the sides this is known as the breaking zone and is a standard item to replace every 10 years monel stayed up to a certain size everywhere else then copper is. Used
Thank you. There are some bright stay heads which can been seen on the front right hand side of the wrapper. There also appear to be a lot of new stays in the backhead, are these likely to be monel or copper?
Without seeing it I cannot comment as to what material they are
I have done a bit of digging and the price of monel stays is eyewatering. It seems to have gone up a lot recently.
