Rivets that are countersunk both front and back. The rivets go through the plates only.

Thank you for the update. Nice to see our local foundry used for parts of the locomotive. We had a part made for a blacksmith's Forge at the same Foundry :) :).

Great stuff, and the plan to bring the boiler appeal forward suggests that the project is going from strength to strength.

Interesting breakdown of costs, so the firebox complete looks to be around £270,000, and as far as I recall the copper sheet for the inner firebox is in hand, at least in "virtual" form, ie courtesy of insurers, following the theft of a considerable quantity of copper sheet from Bridgnorth a few years ago.

Not strictly correct 46118. The insurers compensated the Trust for the cost of the copper - not it`s replacement value in today`s market so it`s as good as a fresh start. I hope those thieves don`t sleep!

Ah thanks, point taken, and of course then you ( and others) did the right thing which was to buy the copper sheet during the World "slump" when the price was depressed. Not so now unfortunately.

I stumbled upon a pair of driving wheels, in excellent condition, hidden away in undergrowth some way from Bridgnorth today, with 82045 painted on them.
Are they destined to be used on 82045 ?

This will be the set Gios. ..... I`m surprised they are still visible in the growth!
They were purchased from Stoke on Trent council in the VERY early 82045 days. They were found on show in a suburb of SOT and we arranged to swop them with a pair of similar wheels for their display. It subsequently emerged that they were the wrong wheels for 82045 so we offered them to the SVR to use as a display item outside their engine house. The move to the EH has never been made.

    Barbara

They are the Centre pair from ex BR Standard Class 4 2-6-0 no. 76080. Taken from Newsletter 2 - Spring 2005 off 82045 website news page.

They came from Standard Class 4 2-6-0 No. 76080. These wheels have 16 spokes (as we think most Standards do). The Class 3`s however had 17 spokes ......a peculiarity of Swindon`s. It was decided not to use them as 1) They would not have been authentic and 2) would not have matched the other 4.

We are now well on the way to having 6 new drivers as our website update mentions.

    Regards
    Barbara

I have to say the remarkable progress on 82045 had passed me by somehow... Then I read there that you hope to have a rolling chassis with cylinders this summer! Well done and keep up the good work.
