82045 The way ahead?

See, that makes more sense "it says on the drawing we need these new-fangled lamp irons here, here and here, so they can have them, but we only need to put lamps on the bottom 3, so do those properly."

 

I think there were various combinations.

 

Here’s KWVR’s Swindon built 8F with combination brackets on the buffer beam and a standard one on the smokebox door ……

 

There's a shot of 48431 in service (in the Alan Warren book on Barry Scrapyard locos, if I remember correctly) entering Snow Hill on a freight. She has a GWR-style lamp mounted sideways on the upper lamp iron!
