However, maybe count this as a "near miss" thankfully. Other heritage "coming togethers" elsewhere have resulted in stay problems and leaking tubeplates.

There have been quite a few incidents that have been reported but have resulted in little or no damage to the engine, which suggests to me that in the cases where tubes and stays were damaged the impacts were either severer than most, or the boilers were not in the best of health.

    Thats good.

However with all things safety.. if it's silenced and the event happens a second time (Maybe not NYMR maybe not 92214), the results of the first time being kept quiet obviously doesnt look good.

This is the problem with this forum. There are no real safety implications and if the re were RAIB would insist on notification. I am sure the lesson has been learned by the individual concerned.

So it might be an idea to share that lesson and help prevent the incident recurring elsewhere?

The incident was totally out of the normal run of events, I am not being drawn on what it was, our preserved lines do communicate with each other and I am sure the cause is known by those who need to know but it does not require airing on a public forum just to satisfy those who just want to know.

I repeat that if there are any issues which could be learned RAIB will require publication.

I regard this a bit like saying "some one in the U.K. spilled their coffee this morning, will all other persons worldwide try to Avoid doing the same" It is on the same sort of level.

If it's an incident that requires action to be taken on a national level then the RAIB would investigate and make recommendations. If it's not in the public interest to know why this happened then lets just leave it. If an individual has made a mistake then it's an internal matter for the NYMR and the individual concerned. Why it should be of anyone else's interest is beyond me.

Hopefully as soon as possible, 53809 stopped for washout and a few other things yesterday so I'd expect it'll be got ready and out in the next few days. There was a team of a few people doing some jobs on her yesterday and I presume the washout is complete and now is awaiting a steam test.

I believe the annual insurance exam is being done as part of the washout too.

So current serviceable steam locos as off next week should be 45428, 30926, 53809, 63395 and 92214 (maybe 76079?) for the Gold timetable?

    Cheers,
    Lewis

53809 has just gone on washout, so should reappear during next week - not sure when other washouts are due but that sounds about right.
