    People seemed amused by my suggestion of a rake with linked underslung water tanks, but it sounds to me that the A1ST are thinking of putting water capacity in their new charter rake to give Tornado a 200 mile range.

    Be careful focussing on "need". Who actually needs any mainline steam? Lots of us like it and are willing to pay for it by buying tickets and donating to various projects, but we can hardly be said to need it.

    Understood, I mean it in the context of steam being generally able to access the network, and hence raising the question of which types can be used.
