The Apedale Valley Light Railway will be running every Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday from April 6 to October 27. Steam locomotives will be in use on event days, Bank Holiday weekends and the second complete weekend of each month.

We have a number of special events through the year which will appeal to a wide range of visitors.

The Easter weekend (April 20 to 22) sees our popular Easter Egg hunt – always popular with kids of all ages!

On 19 May, we will host a rally of preserved buses from our colleagues at the Potteries Omnibus Preservation Society. They will be filling the site with single and double-deckers from all parts – make sure you have the exact change or the clippie will be grumpy!

Another family-orientated event is the Teddy Bear outing at the Spring Bank Holiday weekend – May 25 to 27. Kids with furry companions get to travel free!

June 29 & 30 marks the centenary of the Treaty of Versailles. This brought the First World War to a final end. We will mark this anniversary with an event named “Swords to Ploughshares”. This will focus on the Moseley Railway Trust’s collection of military railway equipment.

July 13 & 14 sees our “Heroes and Heroines” family event – kids who dress up as their favourite character will travel free.

The August Bank Holiday sees double helping of road-based nostalgia. We host a new event for Apedale – “Leafers at t’pit” is a rally of Land Rovers, and will take place on Saturday 24 & 25 August. On the Sunday 25 August, the Land Rovers will be joined by our annual Classic Cars gathering – parking space within the site may be at a premium!

A key event for the Moseley Railway Trust is recognition that, back in 1969, a horse called “Tim” was hooked up to a makeshift tram car (converted from a brick works wagon) and used to haul passengers along a temporary railway at a School Fete. That school was in Cheadle, Manchester, and the efforts of “Tim” the horse led to the creation of what, in time, became today’s Moseley Railway Trust. We will mark that 50th anniversary with a birthday bash on September 21 & 22.

We bring the main season to a close on October 26 & 27 with the Halloween Spooky Specials – only for the brave-hearts!

In December, Santa will visit on 14, 15, 21 & 22, and we will also be running Mince Pie Specials on December 28.

    Regards,

    Simon Lomax

The diesel event is being rested in 2019. This is because we feel that the MRT 50th anniversary event will have a "look and feel" similar to the diesel event; it's worth remembering that the organisation began with small diesel locos ploughing through track laid on school playing fields! Plans are under development for MRT50, keeping watching for news.
