That's rather unfair. Another large project namely the Bristol Arena (aka George's Arena) is due to open this year. ;) <BJ>

Nope, just in the car park so we can get the forklift to it to help with a couple of jobs.

    But no reports since.
Guys, you have to create an atmosphere, an expectancy.
I want to know how the project is progressing, the sponsors also want to see that their grant is being well spent.
    Being helpful here, not obtrusive.

I walked along the railway path from Bitton station towards Bath yesterday. The track appears to be in a poor state with dips here there and everywhere. Perhaps work is about to correct it?

I've thought about volunteering here since I've retired but after some research found that it was not for me. <BJ>

    Knew I missed somewhere!

For those that missed the news on our Facebook page, the Avon Valley Railway Heritage Trust has acquired Manning Wardle 'Littleton No 5' from it's previous owners! It's a great present for our 150th anniversary year, and plans are afoot to formulate a fundraising strategy for the loco. We are asking for initial donations in order to have the loco sent away, striped down, and have a full run down of how much work is required to return the loco back to service. We are also planning for the overhaul to take place off site, with our volunteers on site concentrating their efforts of the Avonside and RSH. As soon as a specific place to donate has been created, I will be sure to share it here! We are planning to go for a HLF bid to fund the overhaul.

Speaking of the RSH, it is the subject of a fundraising gala event on Saturday 16th March. The Industrial Mixed Traffic Gala will feature guest loco Hudswell Clarke No 1742 'Millom' courtesy of our friends at the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre. It will run alongside a selection from a pool of our own industrial locos. https://www.facebook.com/events/362206507897296/

why not finish the overhaul of the Avonside before starting on the other two as its been 30 years since it last run after all it is a Bristol engine.

The plan is to send Littleton out to be overhauled off site, leaving the volunteers at Bitton to concentrate on finishing the Avonside and then continue work that has already been started on the RSH. This will hopefully mean we have two trust owned locos back in service sooner rather than later.

Why not overhaul Littleton at the Avon Valley Railway and send 4F 44123 for restoration to another preservation centre, permanently.

I'm in my 60s now and would dearly love to see the loco run while I'm still on this planet. <BJ>

IIRC 44123 isn't owned by the railway.

However the railway does seem to be short of cash - a bit like the WSR, but has the advantage that it doesn't wash its dirty linen on this forum.

That is indeed correct, 44123 is in the care of the London Midland Society. Avon Valley Railway is not responsible for its restoration.

I don't understand that comment. If the Railway is short of cash, as you claim, then advertising the fact and asking for help is likely to be beneficial. Indeed this appears to be what theonlyadsrulz is doing. Hardly "washing dirty linen", surely ?

I think Simon refers to the WSR when he talks about dirty linen. He has a man on the inside telling him... ;)
