I gather that 34052 Lord Dowding will replace 60163 Tornado on the Belmond Pullman on Saturday 18 June.

Bug.... I'll mean " oh dear". I thought I would just be missing a regular Tornado appearance.

Now that's a very interesting piece of news. Thank you. I've not seen 34052 before.

...Hang on a minute, I've just discovered that it's really Braunton in disguise.

I can see the diesel going with the train on this one. Would be a tad risky to allow the class 7 out of Victoria on it's own. In my opinion, Id say it would manage it.

Light engine move shown on RTT - looks like it will be more than capable on its own, given its timing speed of 134mph!

Can't imagine it will need a diesel. DBC only attach for heating and not for pushing. A good strong Class 7 Bullied on a dry rail (no rain forecasted tomorrow) should be up to the task.

    Why the switch from Tornado?

Tornado is staying up north before going to Scotland for a charter.

I know but what has stopped it coming south. I assume MNLPS had already negotiated for 34052 to deputise if anything went wrong.

I thought there was a certification problem. No doubt that doesn't take five minutes to sort out but the fact that the A1ST is rather quiet about it all is strange.

Indeed beginning to look a little more than a paperwork issue/misinformation on the computer... be useful to hear what the issue actually is?

I'll be very interested to see how the Light Pacific gets on with this - with or without a trailing diesel it's a pretty hefty task. Anyone know what the load limit was in real steam days Guildford to Redhill for a WC/BB (infact I don't remember them working this route but it was a long time ago)?

My impression has always been that whilst both Clan Line and Tornado (and occasionally other class 8's) have handled this train well in the past, there wasn't a lot to spare if things got a little difficult.

In any case I really wish 34052 well on this trip.

A few years ago this used to be a regular outing for tangers in its healthier days, although not sure if the amount of coaches has increased in recent years??

I bet the crew are really looking forward to this run and hope it goes well for them.
