I had a feeling none had made it to Ashburton. Really racking my brains to think of a preserved line they might not have visited Foxfields the only one I can think of they deffo havent visited!

GCR has 5491 & 5305 as current residents 5231 was long-term resident in the past, 4767 and 5110 have visited and 5379 was stored at GCRN as a non-runner before the MHR bought it.

Its far from making it a contender for the record, but 45407 too.

Wasn't 5305 going to be in lms livery this year?

With the WSR and the NYMR both vying to be the line that has hosted the most Black 5s in preservation, I'd be interested to know if either line saw an example in BR days. I'd be surprised if the WSR ever saw a visit, but as always, I'm more than happy to be proved wrong.

Of the LMS lines, I guess we can take it as read that the Churnet Valley, Strathspey and East Lancs lines saw black fives running over the route before 1968, but what about the Worth Valley? Of course, they passed through Keighley on Leeds-Skipton (and beyond) services, but did one ever venture to Oxenhope before the line closed by BR?

Mid Hants saw 45493 on a diverted Bournemouth-Waterloo train one Sunday in 1966. It was well recorded by photographers. Probably the only preserved ex-SR line to see one.

I think that was the plan, but there doesn't seem to be much news on this recently. 5025 at Strathspey is also to be restored in LMS livery AFAIK.

It is always said that resident Black Five 45428 would have/did work over the line in BR days on summer specials to Whitby, so fellow Holbeck Black Fives presumably did as well.

Black 5s ran between Scarborough & Whitby along the coast line, so I would be very surprised if they hadn't run over what's now the NYMR.

Always intresting to see whether a loco thats based on heritage line worked over it in its previous life. Going off topic slightly (but with the same amount of wheels) theres a cracking photo of 48773 blasting its way through Heywood on a railtour in Severn Valley loco's as they were.

I'm a tad bemuses by all of this. I would have thought, observing from a distance, that Barry and Carnforth hosted the most Black 5s post August 1968.

Slightly off topic, but do any preserved black 5s run with riveted tenders?

5025 did, but the tank is apparently spent. I did hear the new one will be welded with faux rivetts added for appearance
    5212's is rivetted IIRC
