45379 home and away. Chawton Woods and Avon Valley Railway.

 

I captured the last time 45231 worked on the ML in the South, as she powers away from the site of the former Junction of the Tongham line between Farnham and Aldershot in March this year, and a pair of Fives at Alton in February (45231 + 45379).

One from the The Keighley & Worth Valley Railway, 30th March 1969:

 

45407 at Ramsbottom, ELR. 2 January 2017 and 45025 at Preston with the last steam hauled Belfast Boat Express. 5 May 1968.

 

Am I right in thinking the one at Leyland is from north of the station?...... from vague memory back in the 80's - no chance of getting there..... & I seem to recall seeing photo's my old man took from roughly the same place as a nipper which was well before the 60's!.......

It's south of the station. The bridge in the background is Turpin Green Lane. The '5' is heading south with a railtour and was standing in for 70013 which had failed at Carnforth.

As a Nipper I was only allowed to go from me Nan's in Balshaw Crescent to the station - but explains the bridge in my shots of north bound trains!

 

Out of interest when was 44932 in green livery?

No pictures but I have very fond memories of riding behind 44932 on a Victoria to Sheffield Park tour 5 years ago (top and tailed with Braunton) and on the Kensington Olympic to Seaford tour. I very recently had a very enjoyable time with 45212 on the Woking to Kingswear tour earlier his year.

Way back in the early 70s. She hauled the second of two trains from Carnforth to Barrow and back on the first day of public main line running in September 72. My first main line steam trip post 68.
