I have not been to Llangollen since SSS3 so another visit is over due and the home fleet will be of interest as well. I have been to SSS1 - 3 inc and have beer festival glasses from each one.

    Neither have I!

I think I'll wait and see whats announced for both before making any decision....;)

I can only assume that whatever Green Five is inferring to has to be of the Bulleid variety, otherwise why post a comment like that in a Bulleid thread?............ there, slightly back on topic, I think!

He said it wasn't a Southern theme gala. Another loco which may require running in is Braunton after an intermediate overhaul.According to the booklet on yesterdays The Solent and Sarum " She will soon be withdrawn from service for an intermediate overhaul and will return to service again in early 2015".

Yes I know! (LNER would be NICE! :))

And, yes Braunton had crossed the mind......... along with a couple of others - I'll believe whatever it is when I see it, as something like that would be all over the railway by now, and seeing as I was down there yesterday, and no one was talking about it...........

    Anyway, we digress........

That's when she gets her supposed ID change to Lord Dowding isn't it.

Personally I think there should be a Battle of Britain gala next year (although I think Swanage have something planned) but for the MHR you have 34046 (as 34052), 34053, 34067, 34070, 34072 and 34081 are BoB's that could/should be in steam by the end of next year (although with 34053, 34070 and 34072 it's all the same group unlikely to get all 3). Maybe 34007 could take the ID of Hurricane or Spitfire.

The loco I am referring to is not of the Bulleid variety. Perhaps the identity will be revealed at the AGM this coming Saturday and I will be able to say more on here after that. Not allowed to say what it is yet but it has got me very excited!

I posted here because someone mentioned the possibility of the MHR hiring 34092. They won't need to just yet hopefully due to the visitor coming at the beginning of the year.

I have sent you that PM now

Just saw this video of Tangmere with either some colossal blowback or a very dodgey camera with the dodgey camera being the most likely answer

Just the light from the fire on the exhaust smoke by the look of it.

In other news..did anyone else notice Tangmere valve timing sounding a bit rough today ? Admittedly that's the only other unrebuilt I've seen in steam other than wadebridge (which permanently sounds wrong) - but something wasn't quite right with 34067...

You may be right on the timing point but it is a hard one to call with an unrebuilt. Sometimes it can seem fine and the next minute it is not and that depends partly, I think, on whatever is happening with the reverser. It's just one of the quirky features of this type of locomotive. That's also why, I think, on one day it can produce a sparkling performance and on the next it may be less impressive. It all adds to the appeal although for a similar reason that it was decided to rebuild many of the class, this is also proving to be a challenge for the current custodians of Tangmere. It helps to have pretty near impeccable reliability and predictability in a loco when on the main line in particular. Hopefully those responsible for City of Wells will have better luck in due course.

Probably a salutary lesson in the power of social media when it goes viral, though. When I first looked at the video after Siquelme linked to it, it had a couple of hundred views. Now it has nearly 13,000. The last railway video I remember doing likewise was the GCR derailment, which went from zero to about 125k in a week or so. You can see why organisations hold sites like YouTube simultaneously in awe and fear, especially if you don't have control over what might be posted by someone else.
