Not having a dig, but this has been mentioned in the last couple of pages. Unfortunately 34053 will not be mainline certified, as SLL have stated that the returns from mainline running are negligible once all the registration, insurance paperwork and equipment has been factored-in. There is also the matter of volunteers, as its one thing to restore the locomotive from scrapyard condition, but completely another to ensure that there is a team 'on call' to keep it running on the mainline. SLL have not been mainline since a one-off by 34072 in 1990, and things have changed considerably since then. I'm sure everyone would think it would be nice to see it out on the mainline, but as things stand, I can see the economics going against such a plan. One can but dream, though... Just throwing a thought in but do you think there wouldn't be a demand for a WC/BB on the mainline if an engine was to be loaned out on a long-term basis to a company or individual that could find work for it? The responsibility to fit OTMR, TPWS and GSR-R would rest with the operator rather than the owner as would any maintenance and paperwork.

 

It's certainly an idea thats very similar to what Ian Riley's doing with 45212, but I'm not really the person to ask. I'm sure NickT will step in and give the official line when he's back from his break in a week or so. From a discussion at the most recent AGM, however, I seem to remember that there was no official interest in putting one on the mainline, a decision based upon informal consultation with some owning/operating groups of the current mainline fleet who had arrived on the Swanage on railtours.

 

I see today 34007 Wadebridge has been uncoupled from 35005 CP tender and is being connected to 35027 Port Line old tender.

 

This is not correct. Braunton has been running with its own new tender (numbered 3261) since summer 2011 and will be using this on the mainline.

Yes, i believe the tender from Port Line is going behind Wadebridge initially at least until 34007`s tender is built and then be coupled to 35005`Can Pac` later.

According to info posted on the 34007 website, the tender from 35005 is in a poorer condition than that from 35027.

I can only speculate that 35005`s tender will be heading to Bury to be overhauled by Rileys to go behind 35027 once that loco is overhauled, but if anyone knows more definite information then please feel free to correct me.

 

Didn't someone say that 35005's tender had some work done for her to go mainline so maybe repairs could be done to run her behind 35027. What'll happen when 35005 is overhauled and she needs a tender though?

 

The question is, when the music stops, who will have what tender?! The last few posts are making my head spin!

 

Not a problem I suppose provided we never get to a point where they are all running simultaneously!

35005's tender will end up behind 35027
35027's tender will (eventually) end up behind 35005, but in the meantime it will go behind 34007.
34007 will (eventually) have a brand new tender many parts of which have already been acquired. However, there isn't much urgency to get this finished as 35005 is unlikely to enter traffic before 34007 comes out of traffic.

Just to add to the confusion. Everyone seem to have forgotten about 34105 Swanage tender. Why not start overhauling her tender now and put this tender behind 34007 Wadebridge. This would then allow 34007 Wadebridge to be repainted in Malachite green. What a sight to see three locos at the MHR in Southern colours. The only question to ask your self would you prefer Sounthern Railways on the tender or would you prefer to see British Railways on the tender?

 

Also adding to confusion what about 34016's tender. Does this tender need a lot of work or is it because its a JB loco so it can't be used.

34007 is also going to have a high sided tender like 34105 at least that what it looks like when I saw it in October (and seems to be quite common for this type as it looks like 34092 will have one as well). I guess it could work using 34105's tender until she's ready for traffic. My preference would be Malachite Green with Southern on the tender as 21C107 (with 21C123 is out of service and I think 34081 will be carrying Malachite Green with British Railways on the tender when she returns though I'm sure Spamcan81 is in the best position to say whether its true or not. Plus most other Spam Cans are in Brunswick Green or will be).

Also last weekend I bought The Original Bulleid Pacifics by John Scott-Morgan that was mentioned a few pages back and its a great read with lots of great pictures most of which I've never seen.

 

If she does end up with a high sided original style tender, I wouldnt mind seeing 34007 in Malachite with 34007 and British railways in sunshine lettering it would ensure it stands out from 34105 and fit in quite well into the 50's -60's era that the watercress line likes to portray

 

The Wadebridge website here 34007 Wadebridge has photos of 34007's restoration and has images of the new tender tank which is of the same style of 34105's.

 

Looking on the Wadebridge web site I see new axlebox patterns have been made and casting of them should take place soon. Am I correct in saying light pacific and merchant navy tenderboxes are all the same? If this is correct then other Bulleid groups will find this a great help in the future?
