The railway is constantly looking at the options for expanding workshop and storage facilities. Both the Loco and C&W suffer from an acute lack of space. One option being looked at is to build a new Loco overhaul workshop the same field as train story, this would have the consequence of splitting the Loco dept onto 2 sites. A possibility is that a new running shed could be built near to the new workshop. The redundant building could then be used for additional C&W facilities and as a Diesel dept.

The headshunt for train story could be extended by a short distance by extending into the adjacent field but a nearby pipeline limits the options.

Ryde St Johns would put anther whole set of if and buts into the equation, it is an aspiration but not something that would be done at any cost. No cost being the best case!

The Railway operates in a very prudent and sensible way, it learnt a very hard lesson after overstretching its self with the extension to Smallbrook in the early 1990s, that may begin to explain PH caution when it comes to extending running lines.

Yes our shed was originally a potato store at Wakefield. It has all the disadvantages mentioned above but does keep the rain and sun off. Regarding heat, we had a hot spell when we were beading TO 7828 and we had to keep the two-pack filler for the pin holes in the fridge or else it would go off straight after mixing, on the other hand if we complain about the cold the boss just tells us we're not working hard enough!

    Hello,
Maybe we should place the value of a shed above the price.
Were money easy to come by then we could have sheds with all kinds of mod cons, air conditioning, sprinklers ...
    The list is endless!

The proposed site is the field on the opposite side of the running line to the fishponds. The fishponds themselves are now derelict and form part of a long term aspiration but are not under consideration at present.
