This will now be hauled by 60019. Anybody know what's wrong with Tangmere?

Tangmere replaced Bittern for the run to Ely on Tuesday (8th December), perhaps it is just a swap, to ensure Bittern doesn't lose out?.

The Steam Dreams website states : -

"Please note that the Carol Concert Cathedrals Express to Chichester will now be hauled by 60019 Bittern due to 34067 Tangmere not being available for the trip this weekend.

We are grateful to our operators West Coast Railway Company for their swift arrangements and help in organising such a replacement and to the Mid Hants Railway and the locomotive's owner in making it available."

It should be pretty fast, 60019 with only 11 on. I'm pleased in a way, I've only seen 60019 once at Staines which is a pretty awkward station

Thanks for the info. Bit gutted actually, I was really looking forward to photting Tangmere as I haven't seen it for a while but atleast it's coming down to Hastings on the 22nd I think. Shouldn't complain really as we usually get naff-all main line steam specials down to East/Mid Sussex anyway. My Dad and I will probably go to Clayton Tunnel to phot Bittern.

Tangmere seemed perfectly ok on the Oxford trip yesterday.

It is still down for the trip to Salisbury on Tuesday, so unlikely to be anything major.

The Special Traffic Notice for the Chichester working was published a few days ago and showed 60019.

The plot thickens as 34067 allegedly was found to have a crack in the inner firebox when examined this morning. (The information came from two different sources within the railway industry.) However minor the crack is, it will be a few days before the loco can be repaired. The boiler will need to be left to cool slowly and then drained before any welding repair can be done.

I think we had better wait for a statement from the loco owners on the extent of repairs and how long 34067 will be out of traffic.

    Regards, Neil

34067 was used on the Ely trip due to gauging problems for the A4 between Haughley Jn and Ely.

I'll be at Haywards Heath to see 60019 first thing and probably on the way back. What happened with the trip Tangmere was meant to haul from Haywards Heath to Bristol last weekend. Not enough passenger numbers?

Hmm, not quite sure how that works as it was always 34067 until yesturday morning when Tangmere was removed from this trip and 60019 added with the new instructions and information being issued. At least it's still steam after all!!!

Still about 20 minutes or so down at Horley

plenty of smoke though, and the valves lifting too.

the signals at Horley were single amber for a long time before it came through

magnificent sight, congratulations to all concerned

Lateness was mainly due to the baking loco loosing contact with the back of the train coming out of Victoia. This caused Bittern to slip to a halt. 20 minutes and a few detanators later the 37 compeleted it banking duty.

Only 3 or 4 min down at Goring. Looked in great form, accelerating hard and up to about 50.

    Cheers

Only a few minutes late at Haywards Heath and was flying. Nice long whistle through the station.
