They had webcams on the old site? Huh. Never knew that.

Hopefully the new MPD pages should be more up to date, some of the previous ones hadn't bee updated in years.

New website looking good but, as others mention, it really does need some more info in the enthusiasts sections which I am sure will be added soon. One big omission appears to be the lack of a link to the Moorland & City Railways which I would deem quite important bearing in mind the CVR run over their railway!

PS: has 6046 entered service yet?

Really? This was the situation last week. I'd say she'll be seen sooner rather than later.

    Hope you are right.

While I don't care for the 'yanks' (and diesels too) :) ANY steam is better than none in the present circumstances so good luck to all who sail in her.

Whoa! She's looking very bling! By any chance, she hasn't just returned from West Coast Customs, Mr Wilson having had his ride 'pimped', has she? :tongue1:

See the backhead is still bare, and work ongoing around the dome, i take it that's some of the only work left to do?

Yeah, don't quite know what's left as I can't get down CVR at present. But they MPD are pulling out all the stops with volunteers working on her 6/7 days a week! And they are doing a Royals Royce job too, she really will be glamorous for a freight loco.

She really does look fantastic. I can't wait to see her in action. You either love or hate S160s. I love 'em!!

I hate them, but only because they don't 'fit' in a NSR scenario. But ANY steam is better than none.

As I said, they are not representative of the locos that used to run on NSR/CVR lines that's all. I thought the main policy of the CVR was to be as close to the original scenario as possible. I admit they look great, but be even nicer if there was a Black Five or a 4F alongside them. :)

NSR used to have two appropriate engines 44422 and 80136 however for various reasons they have made homes elsewhere . Ultimately any railway can only steam engines which are available for its use

Perhaps not representative of the locos that ran on the CVR but I believe that at least on one occasion a S160 did run run down the valley.

    VOLUNTEERS WEEKEND - MAY 19/20

Have you ever wanted a hobby to occupy your spare time, with the chance to meet new people of all ages in a new environment?

If so our railway needs you!

The Churnet Valley Railway opens its doors to potential new members.

There will be staff in all departments available to show you around.

No matter how much or how little time you can spare, every little helps in keeping the railway operating. Many people only do 1 turn a month, but we are still grateful for this commitment.

So why not do something different, and join the CVR today?

OAKAMOOR - CAULDON LOWE DMU SPECIALS - MAY 19/20/26/27

During both Volunteers weekend event and the following weekend, the DMU will be running a special service to include every mile of CVR/MCR metals currently available from Oakamoor to Cauldon Lowe.

These will be the first CVR trains along the full 15miles, and the only chance to see the DMU up Cauldon Lowe in 2012.

These excursions will depart from Froghall at 10:10 and 13:25 each day, and MUST be pre-booked. Tickets are £20 Adults & £12 Children but will allow travel on the normal service train which will see 33021 hauling a rake of Mk1s. Call 01538 750755 to book now.

    BOOK SIGNING - MAY 19/20

We are also pleased to announce that local author Basil Jeuda will be present at various times over the weekend to sign copies of his new book, "The North Saffordshire Railway in LMS Days Volume II". It is the second of three volumes which trace what happened to the former North Staffordshire Railway (“The Knotty”) after it was absorbed by the London Midland & Scottish Railway in 1923.
