I'd prefer a two train timetable with every train going up to Ipstones. I'm not really interested in the CVR shuttles especially if they're freight. The main draw for me is an interesting visiting loco. 31806 was good so something about that size alongside the S160(s) would be ideal. Perhaps 76079 or 43106 or even better a Manor - anything but another Bulleid pacific!

Our 40s Weekend is seeing the preservation debut of former MOD Tank Carrier no. 8123 carrying two military vehicles around. Couple of pictures for you, one of the vehicles being loaded with the ramp wagon that is also onsite (but not presently fit for use on Passenger Trains) and a second one 8123 in action today.

Come on down tomorrow and see this in service for yourself.

Out of interest does anyone find this thread useful? Is it worth having a 2016 version or not?

Yes it is useful. I wouldn't have known about 5619 coming and as I live a long way from the railway I wouldn't have known about it. I shall now be visiting the railway to see it.

Absolutely. The Churnet Valley is a bit off my radar, I'm afraid, and it's only this thread that keeps bringing it back to my attention.

Looks really cool. The ramp wagon is especially interesting.
Although does highlight something a lot of railways have at 1940s events and a personal bugbear of mine - Ferrets were introduced in 1952. At AVR every year, someone turns up with a Desert Storm-era Reo truck and a someone else with a Green Goddess from the 60s!
To be honest I think it's a bit cheeky to piggyback on a WW2 event with post war vehicles and assume 'the public doesn't know any better, as long as it looks army'.
I saw a lovely photo taken at a 'forties' event, that showed an M38 Jeep with a BR green DMU passing in the background, both from 20 years after the war ended! Granted, I know there's not a lot that the railway can do for a 2 day event with the stock it has.
Thing is, MV owners are often so tight with one another that if one were to challenge a vehicle's age and appropriateness for such an event, you'd likely upset a group of them.
    Gah!

Just as authentic as the 1952 built TKh then!

Yeah, and the Mk1s. Bit harder for the railway to change its rolling stock for one weekend, though, than for anachronistical vehicle owners to leave their cold war equipment at home....

Maybe we should go even further and require visitors to arrive in clothing from the chosen period and stick to conversations about contemporary issues, whilst reading newspapers from the day etc etc etc

(Or just accept that preservation, by its very nature, is impressionistic).;)
