I can confirm that the tea room and platform pantry at Kingsley & Froghall will be open as will the refreshment kiosk at Cheddleton. I believe that a 'food hall' will be set up within the market at K&F car park serving all day breakfasts etc. There will be a beer tent and a trolley service/bar on the trains.

With more engines arriving next week, it is worthy to mention our webcams which can be found at http://www.churnet-valley-railway.co.uk/main/webcams.php Along with the activity at Cheddleton, locos can be seen on the Froghall camera after they have been offloaded.

    **UPDATE**

I do not know the reason, however I'm sorry to report that the planned direct Bus Service does not look like it will be going ahead. I'm sorry to all those that were hoping to utilise this service, but hopefully this wont put you off coming. Below are details of Public Bus Services that run to Froghall and Cheddleton.

Looks like everything should lead to a very enjoyable weekend, really looking forward to our trip down. One quick question, do we ring up regarding line side permits or just turn up on the day?

    Thanks in advance. Simon

Just to stick my oar in, when the full timetables come out they (should) have marked the trains that include the Beavertail (set 1) and LMS (set 2) saloons. The Kitchen Car (which may well be providing breakfasts if previous galas are to go by) should be in the same set that the LMS saloon is on. Hopefully this should help you if you're "targeting" a certain departure with on-train catering!

(PS: Gala organisers please shout if I have got this wrong!)

Oh no, Franks blown me in!...I prefer my real ales to cider but have been known to sup the odd pint of Westons Old Rosie and it is the odd pint if anyone on here drinks the stuff they will know what I mean..  I shall be there for the first weekend Frank, the 13th and 14th. As I said I have offered to help out but have asked to be free for the Saturday night beer train.

Looking forward to meeting up with a few people :thumb:

What a great video. I think the first shot is my favourite, as GS blasts under the bridge!

Re: Churnet Valley Railway& Moorland & City Railways Cauldon Lowe Branch re-opening G

Great video, alberta45562, and thanks for posting. Yesterday was a fore-taste of what a superb spectacle the Gala days should be. I have posted my own video efforts at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q8SN9QJc2hU taken during the first and second training runs yesterday - all locations were on roads/public rights of way. I was so impressed with 44767 coming up the 1 in 45 - it was awesome!

Just a couple of observations regarding lineside photo spots... the heavy rain on offer this week will make access via footpaths to the farm crossings below Bradnop EXCEEDINGLY muddy. It was bad enough yesterday! The narrow lane to Threshing Barn Crossing now has a 'No access to railway' sign to cars at the A523 end, but it IS of course a pedestrian right of way. At Ipstones overbridge people were parking very close to the brow of the bridge not clear of the road causing a hazard to fast traffic on this stretch. The farmer who thinks he owns the lay-by 100 yards east of the bridge was once again moving all his farm machinery into the lay-by to prevent any of the public parking there.

Re: Churnet Valley Railway& Moorland & City Railways Cauldon Lowe Branch re-opening G

Can anyone on here recommend a cheap and cheerful B&B or suchlike in the area as I intend staying over the weekend? It's mainly somewhere to get a kip and wash and brush up as I expect to be busy most of the time. I would normally be camping but it could be a bit damp and chilly for that this coming weekend!

    Thanks, Neil.

    Neil,

There is farmhouse B&B just 200 yds down the lane from Apesford Crossing. It is called Middle Farm.

    see http://www.middlefarmbandb.co.uk/

    very reasonable rates, too...
From here you'll hear them blasting up the bank through Bradnop!

    Cheers,
    Ron

Re: Churnet Valley Railway& Moorland & City Railways Cauldon Lowe Branch re-opening G

I take it that all locos will be facing north for the gala? Furthermore, will all locos work on each day of the first weekend, if so, will there be a working timetable produced?

    Cheers,
    Lewis

Re: Churnet Valley Railway& Moorland & City Railways Cauldon Lowe Branch re-opening G

All locos will face north. All steam locos will run both days of the first weekend, all diesels will run the last weekend, and the middle weekend will have a "selection" (probably at least the visitors) from both camps.

Still unsure about the timetables, don't think working timetables will be going out but I've been asking about timetables with loco diagrams. Will have to see over the next couple of days...
