Today's run near Dorking West. I've noticed before, and specifically again today that, whereas the DMUs along the NDL sound their horns for every foot crossing's 'W' board, '28 misses most of them. Is there a special dispensation for steam to do this? Running downhill, even steam is capable of approaching quietly enough to catch those crossing unawares, I would have thought.

I see they took the trouble to take the nameplate off when they sprayed her black in 1967 so as not to leave a tidemark!

A clear run at Shalford allowed it to have a real charge at the bank today, a quick passing at Chilworth (greeting a Class 769 in the process)

Nice scenes over that high parapet. Was the hi-vis-jacketed person in shorts on the platform really a track worker I wonder?! I was at Ranmore and was hoping the 769 would pass it there, but the 769 was early and 35028 still hadn't fully recovered from its significant delay earlier (20 late at Chertsey, without the large recovery margins for the evening SSE runs). Interestingly, that 769 was bound for Oxford.

I guess they weren't, "Oh yeah", "Nice one" or "Great idea"?

Looks the the coaching set is on use on the 50's tour today. Guess that will give chance to prove the deep clean worked after last weekends issues.

So despite the fact that those in the know now have confirmed timings from RTT, Pathfinder has yet to send out tickets for next Wednesday to Margate.

I guess that they are not bothered about people who want to plan to join the train more than one hour in advance. It also seems that an additional pick up is now available at Bromley South that is not shown on their publicity.

Too True Al. Not much use to us trying to drive to other pickups on a working day either. We could only save an hour in the morning by catching a Service Train to Reading. If we're on time back at Reading the 2111 Swansea would get us back to NWP an hour and a half earlier - if it runs. Not worth the extra cost or the risk of cancellations and late running trains on the GWR.

It wasn't lack of steam crews, they were available. It was lack of route conductors for the drivers as none sign the routes towards Norwich.

My tickets arrived this morning, in coach 'C'. Given that we are joining at Newport and it will be a very long day, we booked first class to be assured of more comfy seats, greater legroom and a larger table.

Coach A for me, so I'll either be at the back all day or the front all day. A long day Wednesday, then two busy days at work, then another long day on Saturday with The Caledonian. I'll be knackered on Sunday!

I hope it goes well though can’t be on it as away on a family break to compensate for an aborted summer break . It’s also a birthday treat for the boss! So far so good but raining today but won’t stop us getting some steam mileage. Won’t compare to Clan Line though.
