Don't know how true it is but didn't his dad manage to get the SR to swap their regular Schools for a Bulleid on the annual trips to Epsom for the Derby because he thought they were a bit puny?

    Oh, don't you start!

But Kudos to the MNLPS for getting the gig. :)

You never know he may request 60009 before she bows out......... now wouldn't that be a fitting finale?.....

I'll say what I always say about 35028 'you can set the tea by Clan Line' it's a great accolade for the MNLPS, and another feather in their cap, as an aside knowing that Charles has a thing for Steam I do wonder if he made the request?!

All aboard! Prince of Wales stuns commuters by arriving at Cardiff station on the royal train pulled by a STEAM locomotive that dates back to 1948 - the year he was born

Commuters were left doing double takes today when the Prince of Wales arrived at Cardiff Central station in the royal train - pulled by a steam locomotive.
As locals hurried to work on Friday morning, Charles began his tour of the Welsh capital in style, before strolling down Platform 3 to meet the driver.
The heir to the throne climbed into the cab of Clan Line, which was built the same year he was born - 1948.
Driver Vince Henderson, 58, chatted to the prince and said afterwards: 'He was asking odds and sods about the engine and about the coal, and he wished us all merry Christmas.
'The train is 70 years old, it was made the same year he was born and he knew that, he said so.'

On the platform, Charles met a group of young people who have taken part in a Prince's Trust Cymru programme to equip them with skills for the rail industry.
Phil Jones, director of the Prince's Trust Cymru, introduced Charles to the group who had completed the Get Into Rail project.
He said after the visit: 'Employers can teach them the specific skills needed to do the job but Get Into Rail helps them develop what we call soft skills, motivation, self-confidence, teamwork.'

But was Charlie rebuilt 10 years later?! ;) So so far we have 6233, 6201, 6024, 60163 and 70000 and 35028 to have hauled the Royal Train, that's rather impressive.

Ah, I'd forgotten about 70000! I could think of the other 4, plus 35028. Just checked, it was nearly 7 years ago. Time flies!

Newport. It went down to East Usk Yard the night before and was back in Stewarts Lane last night to be prepared for today's Belmond. An expensive exercise for a half our trip and quite a commitment for a society run entirely by volunteers

Her Majesty the Queen enjoyed a trip behind 60009 to open the Borders Railway in September 2015. Not the traditional stock but surely still a 'Royal' train?

As an aside, I've never understood the use of the word 'dragged' in these circumstances. The word has strong implications of unwillingness to move on the part of the 'dragee' and, in the case of vehicles, wheels not turning! What's wrong with 'hauled', 'pulled' or 'towed'?

Did 35028's driver actually say the "train" was 70 years old?!

If they are going to keep calling it " The Clan Line" why are they not calling him "The Prince Charles"

Anyway what's he done with it, it's disappeared off RTT

More likely the reporter since loco or engine does not appear to be in their vocabulary.

And also considering that since the loco is invariably in steam, they actually do have the regulator cracked open.
