Wonderful photo...sets us back in time; the Duchess is centre of attraction but your eyes keep getting drawn to so much detail around the station and background. Most photo backgrounds are trees and grass so it makes a great change to see this.

Thanks for the kind comments guys. One of those rare occasions when I got lucky. I got to the bridge about 5 minutes before 46233 was due thanks to roadworks, a diversion and traffic lights stuck on red ....two different sets would you believe! When I arrived, a chap who had his phone tuned into RTT said it was still at Preston, lucky break number one! When it did arrive, about 30 down, it was put into platform 4 instead of 3 opposite. So the whole loco was in sun. Had it gone into 3 the wheels would have been in shade. Lucky break number two. Third was the sun itself which remained unobscured despite the amount of clouds. There is a lot of clutter around the station due to electrification work, in fact some of the masts have gone up the other way towards Manchester.

Awesome shot Alan (wish I'd taken it). Having luck is one thing...knowing how to use it is another! :)

Thanks John. Usually, if it wasn't for bad luck I wouldn't have any luck at all! :(;)

A bit of remodelling going on in the area so I would guess that there is no other line at the moment.

As I reported on this thread at the time CME stopped on the fast line (no platform access) at Lancaster for 25 mins. Dunno why. AN
