Knowing that No.8 has had a newly designed ashpan and No.9 will have the same, what will happen to the old ashpans all three Rheidol tanks carried?

Oil firing is now a thing of the past on the Vale of Rheidol Railway.

Over the winter 2011 / 12, No 8 Llywelyn was converted back to coal firing and No 9 Prince of Wales likewise this winter.

No 9 made its first moves on Friday evening hauling a test train to check the efficiency of the spark arrestor, providing a rare opportunity for some night photography at Aberystwyth. It last ran on coal in 1980 and should enter passenger service later this month.

Keep your eyes pealed - it should be in passenger service later this week.

As for No 7 Owain Glyndwr - It is on the 'to do list' . . .
