Does anyone know where exactly this gauging problem is ?, i think that could be Halls banned from Bristol potentially as coming southbound from Cheltenham has a gauging issue too.

'We have encountered a problem with this excursion and despite repeated enquiries, pleadings and appeals; we are unable to operate 4965 "Rood Ashton Hall" on this tour. This is due to a "gauging" issue with the down platform at Reading West station where Network Rail believe that the cylinders of the locomotive would foul the platform'

    From Vintage Trains passenger letter.

Seems ironic really seeing that halls (& other GWR 2 cyl locos) passed there a million times a day in steam days. Couldn't really notice anything the other day when I was there waiting for the ecs with 34067. Here is the layout, 34067 is at the down platform.

Dropping the Hall does allow faster running of course which is what the Berk and Hants route is about anyway. 8F also running Carnforth to Southall that day apparently so they could pass in the evening perhaps?

An hour less at Bristol then?
Must have been a typo on the VT letter.
Not enough time to trip up to Stoke Gifford for the GW model Expo now, looks like a walk to the docks.

How frustrating for passengers joining/leaving at Oxford - 50 mins in the loop just south of the station immediately after getting on board, 70 minutes in the same loop before they can get off. If only the loop were north of the station...

Went for a walk across Warwick Racecourse this evening and it was absolutely soaked so hopefully an impressive performance from the fire breathing Edgcumbe up Hatton Bank tomorrow night!
