Could be an interesting variation on the Cotton Mill/Buxton Spa/Tin Bath, especially as the latter may have a limited life expectancy. Be rather nice with a loco from the Riley stud off Rawtenstall, over the Pennines one route, up to Oxenhope and back over another. Keep it limited, even one off, I bet it would sell. Timing could be an issue.
Another to ponder upon, Rawtenstall to Bridgenorth and return? Harold. :-k

Did anyone get to the bottom of why this was cancelled, lack bookings or operational - apologies if I have missed this elsewhere? Just hope this isn't a wider sign of people tightening their belts financially?

I think it may well have been lack of bookings. Just take a look at what is happening down South and I reckon most of you Northerners (lovely people) will have ventured south of the Watford Gap to either travel in or photograph this:
Waterloo to Southampton to Waterloo with Tornado.
Paddington to Yeovil to Paddington with Tangmere
Victoria to Guildford to East Croydon to Victoria with Torndado
(not forgetting Clan Line on the VSOE from Victoria).
There is going to be 4 steam departures from London termini in ten hours. Unbelievable!
It is going to be steam heaven down south this weekend and hundreds are going to be travelling and hundreds more witnessing Tornado on its first run South of the Thames.

Nothing has ever appeared on Past Time website, just the date taken off. No reply from Mr Riley either

 You must be joking, travel south of Watford Gap just to see Tangmere and Clan Line...and with all that horrid snow and rain you are having. No way. Up North here we have our principles to think of, I would rather go to a football match. ;-)

To be honest, I wouldn't go across the road to see any football match.
