I hope she gets a run down south as currently this is the only one of the 4 UK preserved A4's I've not seen in completed form.

First time I saw A4 was at Loughborough in the early 1990's but I have no memory of it at all as I was only a few years old. Then I saw Mallard in 1998 and during the same week or 2 60007 (which I hope to see again in October) again at Grosmont (I was on holiday up there with family in 1998 I think), I did see 60009's frames and cab at Bridgnorth in 1999 and finally I've seen Bittern 4 times (once on a train at Three Bridges on a Monday after a tour, then at Ropley, then at Haywards Heath then travelled behind her last year with possibly a fifth look in July but as 4492).

I doubt she'll spend a significant amount of time at Thornton when she's finished. There isn't any work for an A4 in Scotland.

Suggestions for this - Gresley Society 4744 ca1962, Princess Elizabeth Loco Society 6201 1963, 7029 Clun Castle Ltd 7029 1966, Great Western Society 1466, 6998, 7808? all around 1964/66 - are all just a few that immediately spring to mind. There may be a few on the Bluebell that beat these - North London tank, adams radial, Birch Grove etc. Certainly 6201 was the first of the big main line engines bought by a society.
    Regards
    Bob

To bring this back to topic, is 60009 a single or double chimney A4?

All preserved A4s are double Kylchap.

    The A4LS/SNGLPT have owned 60007 since 1966.

Wonder if anybody give u an update on 60009, with 70000 out and about and Crewe starting to look at 6100, 60009 can't be more than half a year away?

I think many people wonder when she will be ready. SRPS and Cathedrals Explorer are the only ones who have her down for trips so far. The Cathedrals Explorer is only 2 and 1/2 months away and nothing has been heard. Is this a wait and see situation?

I'd say SRPS are in a reasonably good position to know what's what as they are based pretty close to the centre of operations of Mr. Cameron's locomotives. I suppose the usual caveats apply, as one never knows what happens in these things until it turns up on a trial run...

Looking forward to that! What a resurgence of LNER locomotive we are having this year.

I always enjoyed the slightly more 'workstained' appearance of number 9, struck me as more reminiscent of the late 50s/early 60s.

Haven't had much luck with getting an A4 on the mainline, but have ridden behind all three serviceable locos in my time on heritage railways. Hopefully change that on the SRPS tour in June...
