    Don't worry about trying harder, they are two great shots. As far as I'm concerned rods up make for a more powerful shot so don't go worrying about convention, ten out of ten for me.

    A short postcript to this tour...

    Received a letter from RTC at the weekend apologising for the failure of 6233 and offering ￡20 person of a future trip. The letter also said that the reason Network Rail wouldn't allow 6233 to re-join the train at Carnforth was that, although the bearing had been repaired, the actual cause of the failure had not been fully determined and they were not prepared to take the risk of a re-occurance of the main line.

    In the interests of balance, I should point out that at this point some of our former correspondants would now be criticising RTC saying that the offer of ￡20 is not enough and stating that NR made the wrong decision.
