No it's so the driver of Leander could see where he was going instead of having to peer through the smoke screen.

If you are of GWR origin - then that's a Class 6 piloting a Class 5 (or 7 piloting 6 depending on your chosen era!)!

Is that an effect of the light or a burnt smokebox door on Leander?

A couple of shots from above the canal tunnel at Hincaster, not my best choice of location. I was intending to shoot video but the wind was so strong it would have blown my tripod over...

I can't see the Southern brigade claiming the performance rights to this one, Leander was wound right back on approach to Kirkby Stephen, where Tangmere was just doing enough to pull a few coaches. It was a similar scenario on Shap, with maybe a touch more from Tangmere. Still, Tangmere was looking superb, fingers crossed she gets a Dalesman run out.

Looking at the pictures from Carlisle dragging Tangmere over Shap has made a right mess of Leanders smoke box door...

The tables have turned, Tangmere is now in push and pull mode while the Jubilee takes a rest up Wilpshire with its draincock in full voice.

So the double headers have gone home and we are waiting time at Preston. As for the day.
    1. Tangmere still needs a little fettling to quote one of the West Coast team.
    2. Leander needs a lick of paint on the smokebox after having to pull Tangmere around a bit.
    3. Highlight was Wilpshire. 25 at the bottom, 33 by the tunnel and 28 over the top.
    4. On a normal trip the summit speeds would have been fine. The double header added nothing but it gave West Coast a chance to test out their flat top and that was a sensible arrangement.

For some reason the dreaded curling spot appeared on screen just as the engines were on the viaduct ! Happens frequently, seems movement on the tracks affects the internet !! ?? Thanks for posting though
