one of my mates has received his tickets for this week and it says that 45305 is doing the honours. Mixed paths here? :S

45305 is definitely not a bad engine- she stood in for 70013 on the CME last year and managed to keep up with 70013's shedule, which is quite something considering that 45305 is limited to 60mph. Also we had 12 coaches that day and she did fine over Shap and the S&C in rainy conditions.

I agree about 5305 but should these trips turn into a trial of strength for the locomotive? Power classifications are there for a reason and it's not very sensible to load a train without regard to the engine at the front.

uksteam.info now shows 46233 as the loco for the CME on Saturday. The weekly GCR newletter reports that 45305 is still on the railway having ash pan mods.

I also notice that the Herald and UK steam don't agree about Shap and S&C paths. So is Shap going to still be on the return to Crewe?

Northbound over the S&C is favoured now as the 16.11 path South out of Carlisle over Shap, is one of the few where the train can get all the way to the Carnforth water stop without being caught by service trains.
