The Midland Railway had a water treatment plant for the Garsdale water troughs, I guess the peaty stuff on the Pennines would be similar quality to Fen Bog.
If you just wanted it for occassional photographic purposes you could fill it up from a tank wagons or two.

Indeed, wouldnt it be nice if : you could noninate someone to stand by the open droplight, to get drenched in the stagnant water

You could redesign the scoop so that most of the water goes towards the droplight and none at all goes into the boiler:)

When was the last pick up from a water trough?

I suspect that the 'competent person' or whatever they are called may have to be put in a darkened room after they are shown the plan

4472 in 1969? Although some of the early diesels had scoops, so I wonder if one of used it after '69?

    Much better here.
From 10.28 onwards if you don't want to watch the whole magnificent film, which you really ought to do, even with Alan Wheatley's commentary.(He was better playing the Sheriff of Nottingham.)

Thanks for posting this - I remember some clips from Steam Days which my mum taped for me back in the 80s! Still; never seen the whole thing until today, what a wonderful little film... Like the artful way they covered the number on the A4 in the shops with a pair of overalls for continuity!

    Pretty neat.
Back to topic, looks like the Churchward County project has been launched. The prospect is neat, and should give inspiration for several more projects for different groups, such as an Aberdare

I have a good book by a fireman on one of those filming trips for Elizabeathan Express. 48 Years on the Footplate by Roland Ruffell.
Another good one about the pacifics in LNER & Eastern Region days, is Steam Days at Haymarket by Harry Knox.

Would it not just be easier to have someone stand at the side of the track with a hose or bucket and aim it passengers. (I seem to recall the railway at Thorpe Park involved having water thrown over you).

BTW - the person who wrote that doggerel ought to be shot.

    Holy Facepalm ...

    Looking at it:

    - It's on Facebook
    - It claims to be a "Trust" but with no supporting evidence of incorporation, foundation documents, registration, trustees etc.
    - It has about 100 likes
    - Page consists mainly of old photos of the real thing
    - It contains the phrase "we are looking for people who would like to be apart [sic] of the team"

I have no evidence, but it does seem to have all the hallmarks of certain other, ahem, projects (J39, L1, Dean Goods etc)

Almost certainly vapourware and best ignored I suspect. If they have a rolling chassis in five years and a credible plan for funding a boiler I'll eat my hat, but not before. I suspect my hat is fairly safe...

I was thinking of messaging the page to see what I could get, but realised I couldn't even be bothered to do that. I also suspect a rather optimistic use of the word "we" on several posts there...

I can only think of one outfit who would take that job on, but a V2 would be third in line !

Yeaahhh....... I only see the “V2 Trust” only as a dream job. Besides, we already have 4771, but the NRM won’t allow for a new mono block casting, as they claim “would ruin it’s originality”
