Times are now on RTT for the first of the season (30 May starting from Chester). Usual slot from Carnforth (11.21), short stop at Penrith then Carlisle (12.55). Stock moved to A road because of longish (3.5 hour) stay then back down S&C at 16.36

Interesting timings coming back. I'd have expected them to go for the old Fellsman slot at 1512 out of Carlisle, but maybe there's a reason why that won't work. It's a bit of a marathon from Chester!

Yes, true. Maybe the problem is with the extra peak train which departs Clitheroe 1820 which combined with the need to run around the one after at Horrocksford makes it difficult to path at the earlier time. It looks as though the Fellsman this year is also using the later departure slot from Carlisle. All Fellsmen fully booked!

Now with added Mondays ! http://www.westcoastrailways.co.uk

With seats in standard at £59 bookings look to be going well, locos could be interesting this year too ...

Any thoughts on which loco will be sent over to do the York-Scarborough run this year?

The original leaflet I still have had the Dalesman and the Spa express both at from £49 plus a further 10% off that.

Blimey departure after 0900 and only back at 2230ish, for someone who regularly stewards on CME's ex London that seems a very short day with a chance to actually have a decent lunch break in Carlisle.

Yes it's great, a start in my home county, it makes a change from 2 nights in hotels in places like Bedford, Dumfries, Scarborough etc.

York--Leeds--Carlisle timings now out on RTT. Steam sections are the same as two years ago, diesel sections involve more hanging about eg at Kirkstall. But looking forward to 20 June, hoping for a running in turn (!) but will be happy with red, green or black.

Can't now make the connection at Leeds back to Stevenage so doing this would be an impossibly long day. Also no way back from the Chester train. All due to the later Carlisle departure

Neither of these trains are designed to attract folk from the south and one assumes that they will fill up easily otherwise. I see that the Chester trip has, annoyingly, a Penrith layover northbound. Presumably that is because if they use the 8F WC judges it won't get into Carlisle before the Virgin Glasgow service is due. The 1121 path out of Carnforth does depend on whatever is up front being able to run that leg in 75 minutes.
