The WCRC's Dalesman starts running on Tuesdays on 1st May, except the dates when the Fellsman runs, giving us weekly steam over the S & C, great news 50 years on from '68 !!

It will be interesting to see if they're all load 13 like last year, which would mean BIL or the 8F. Or, as the season is extended a fair bit, will the earlier ones be lighter loads as per 2015.

Surely it either the 8F or the Merchant, if it's load 12 or 13 like last year they won't be looking to thrash one of the Jube's

Uksteaminfo has 45600 Galatea listed, I'm guessing it's a typo I believe Bermuda was scrapped....:D

A typo, but I had seen one passenger expecting Galatea for next week, which is what the typo is against. Whether that is based on ticket info or not I'm not sure. Uk Steam has the 8F down for tomorrow, which is the info I have as the likely motive power too.

I see that we will be heading straight to Carnforth where I assume the steam will be attached on the back, then at Hellifield it only means the diesel being dropped off the back, pity really that we don't come back the same way, much less hassle than the meander through Whalley and Blackburn.

Now now Ralph - you of all people should know that the Dalesman doesn't "meander" through Whalley but prepares for the stiff climb out of the Ribble Valley to Wilpshire before dropping down to Blackburn. Tut Tut !

Does it matter when it is diesel hauled? Remember that steam comes off at Hellifield.

48151 coming off Dandry Mire Viaduct, 11 down but moving swiftly. Nice walk from Garsdale station to this spot, the boggy climb up to it, not so much! DSC_1922 (2).JPG

The 8F is pretty much perfect for the Dalesman steam sections whatever the load I should think.
