4555 is in the workshops at Churston partly stripped down and can be viewed either through the windows from the up side platform at Churston, or by attending one of the workshop tours on the Friday (see DSR website for details). 4588 is stabled in the rear of Paignton shed, will see if it can be pulled out into the open for part of the Saturday for viewing and photographs.

You'll see 4555 and 75014 in the workshops at Churston but as 4588 is currently down at Paignton it's unlikely as the tours are only of Churston Workshop. There is a lot of planned shunting work during the week so it [4588] may be moved but we are unsure yet.

Is there no difference mechanically, in theory, between a 45xx and 4575, is it just an improvement in water capacity?

I know it has been discussed before that 4555 is stronger than 4588, is there a known reason for this? Maybe due to usage, previous repairs or because 4555 is ex-BR and 4588 ex-Barry?

4588 is the only P&D loco I haven't seen running so I am sad that it looks like she will never run here again but I understand why.

Going to double head with 7827 all day  Probably will be decided on the day as they can't bring it out until then I imagine as they spilt the second rake putting the two most southern vehicles in front of the shed over night. If you are that bothered you could probably ask somebody there on the day to take you into the shed, I imagine there will be locomotive staff at Paignton as locos rest there during the day.

Plan is to pull 4588 out into the yard area during the day. Should be viewable once D3014 shunts the two coach shuttle set into the platform.

Is it known what engine will be out on the 1800 train Friday evening along with the service engine for Sunday's trains?

Not too sure yet, this week it is 7827 and 4277 so it will be one of them for the Friday evening train and I would think Sunday would be one of the 2-8-0 tanks, this is due to the fire risk (7827 currently limited to a load of 7) and Sunday looks like a busy day. But can't be sure.

Not sure about the Friday, although 4277 would make some sense as it is first out on Saturday. Sunday is booked for 5239, which is then joined by 4277 for the following week I believe.

I've just completed the plan containing all the shunt moves so if everything goes to plan, 4588 should be outside in the yard at Paignton between 14.30 and 17.30 on Saturday.

For operational reasons, 7827 will now turn through 180 degrees not 360 as it is required to face north after the gala. Everything else as booked and everything in place this evening ready to go in the morning.

Very enjoyable gala. Well done to all the staff involved in running the services. The crews all seemed very happy waving to linesiders something you don't see too often other than at this railway and trains seemed well filled too. The driver on the Rat on the 1300 trip was giving it a right good work out to say the least playing to the cameras, and was blasting away on the horn. Had a very nice bash behind D7535 with the driver slowing down to walking pace on the approach to the tunnel before opening her up... and that was going towards Kingswear! Video to follow shortly.

7827's crew can't have a combined age of more than 60.. very young.. but not scared of the regulator for sure!
