It's a steam loco that will deafen anyone south of Paignton, I'm all for it!

Could you imagine it coming to the rescue of a Torbay Express like 7827 did with No9 a few years ago? Should rattle a few windows in the caravan parks!

The last time I was discussing 2253 with Maurice Johnson, he was suggesting removing the air brake system and fitting steam brakes to the loco. That idea may have now gone away, though.

Always thought a Large Prairie would be ideal for this line, is 4115 still at Tyseley?

With favouable winds I can hear a locos whistle as they arrive and leave Greenway and Churston. By the 'sound' of this thread I should hear the loco quite well.

Providing I am still alive when she arrives I guess I will see her very often. The sounds that the railways locos make, depending on wind direction, tell me where they are. That is the great thing about steam locomotives: they make loud sounds unlike the modern diesel counterparts.

If you'd heard Class 37s heading for Ebbw Vale you might think differently.
Screaming Valenta-powered HSTs were quite distinctive too :)

I used to be able to hear 37's going up Old Hill bank when I was a bit younger and we lived about 2 1/2 3 miles away!

Too late for that 4115 or major parts of it have been sacrificed to fake 4709.

The good news though is that 4110 also recently ex Tyseley now has a brighter future in the South West having been acquired by the WSR plc.

The main running season is now over but we are still running our Blue Timetable service from now until 31st December on selected days in November and December (see timetable on website). It's been a very successful season with all that's gone on including the Beer Festival and the hiring of 7820 Dinmore Manor. We're also expecting a busy Xmas period with the Santa Express trains already sold out!

Service engines over the winter season will be 7827 Lydham Manor and 4277 Hercules.

7827 has had its winter maintenance early while there was room in the workshop and also allowing time over the winter period to be focused on other projects. More info on locos on latest blog post : http://www.dartmouthrailriver.co.uk/news/detail/workshop-news

Refurbishment work is now being undertaken on the engine shed at Kingswear which is expected to be completed by Christmas. If you pop down for a ride you'll see a lot of scaffolding at present under the engine shed. This should be the last major structural project for a while.

Also key dates to note for next year will be the 15th - 17th July 2016 which will be our 3rd Annual Beer Festival at Kingswear. We would be expecting a visiting engine over this period as well to add to the fun.

The season is almost at an end with just one more running day left tomorrow with services being hauled by 7827. It has been a busy year on the railway with lots of stuff going on and there's more to look forward to again next year! Next week sees the start of the winter maintenance with a 1/4 mile of track between Waterside and Broadsands being replaced along with other small projects elsewhere along the line to be finished before the start of the season.

Our Devon Belle Observation Car (No.13) is currently on hire to the Swanage Railway. It worked on the railways Christmas Belle services and will shortly be returning home. There is a good photo on our Facebook page of both Cars 13 & 14 lined up side by side for the first time in 50 years!

The 2016 season will commence on the 13th February in time for half term! I will post on here next years timetable once it has been made public within the next few weeks. For anyone interested we have made public a list of passenger carrying rolling stock which are currently at the railway. Please find the file attached.

Why did the Swanage hire your observation car for the Christmas Belle, couldn't they use their own?
