I had great opportunities today to see and hear - what a different a sound to the more familiar GWR beat and whistle - USATC loco 5197 hard at work on the DSR. I first saw, from the beach, her climbing towards and crossing the well know viaducts at Broadsands. Some 45 minutes later I was able to see he close up when she arrived at Churston station from Kingswear.
The CVR can rest assured that 5197 is being noticed, particularly on the coastal side of Churston, as she climbs towards that station.
I guess many photographs have been taken of her since she commenced her duties as most days have been sunny with lovely blue skies - just two miserable days to spoil the half-term holidays.

Unable to get over during half term - does anyone know when she'll be back on the line - planned washouts of other engines?

I'll go anyway - 75014 is worth the trip to Devon, but S160 is icing on the cake!

Seconding John's question, this week took some unexpected turns family-wise so I haven't been able to get over to Paignton but still super-keen to get the S160 there so eager to know when the other chances will be. Thanks in advance.

There may be some opportunity for steam in the snow photography this coming week - at Paignton, even!

Does anyone know what is running this week, please?

With the S160 operating at Dartmouth, does anyone know if it's possible to photograph a train from Noss Marina with the D-Day gridirons in shot?

These were built as a construction and maintenance facility for D-Day landing craft, and are rare survivors of the activity along the South Coast in preparation for D-Day. Historic England (I should say we, as I work for them) designated them as a Scheduled Monument some years ago, and should the development plans go ahead at Noss they will benefit from improved interpretation and photometry recording.

Here's a link to the schedule entry if anyone's interested: https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1020912
