Dean Forest Railway diesel gala - 4/5/6 September 2015

On Saturday and Sunday this weekend (29th and 30th), as an addition to the normal running set (Steam both days) - our guest Diesel D9537 'Eric' will be pulling our observation saloon - for a 1st class passenger ride! A small supplement applies, but it will be quite a trip!

Only a few days to go and the DFR is a flurry of activity in the days leading up to the gala. D9521 went out on a proving run on Sunday with D9537. A large Wild Boar was sighted during last week, sufficiently large to halt the steam service! Thursday will see the locos prepped and checked over. A delivery of ballast is also anticipated for some time this week to load into 6 Dogfish to use on the works at Whitecroft (or at least make a start), to make the freight look a bit more realistic and add a little weight to the consist.....(!) The bucket collection for the rideable freight will contribute towards further ballast purchases.

To remind you of the café/bar situation,

Friday - Cafe opening normal hours - normal fayre

Sat - Cafe opening 8.30 til 9pm (last food orders 8pm) - curry offering (veg & chicken jalfrezi)

Sun - Cafe opening 8.30 until 5pm

The bar will open around 1200 and close when appropriate so but at 5pm on Sunday. The DMU buffets are intended to be open as will the buffet car on the hauled stock. Tea and coffee are also available in the booking office at Parkend.

Can I please also remind you of the online ticketing which does reflect a saving over the "walk up" ticket price.
